Ulysse Nardin takes another swift step toward independence with the acquisition of the Ebel in-house chronograph movement. A revered and reliable movement, it has been considered one of the finest on the market for 17 years – a true success story. Interestingly, the Ebel Chronograph story of development began in parallel with one of Ulysse Nardin’s most notable breakthroughs: the Perpetual Calendar. The commonality is a grassroots movement that was optimized and adapted to each of these two outstanding products, allowing both brands to realize their dream of innovation. With the Ulysse Nardin purchase of the movement, it is as if the twin brothers have found each other.
The story of this chronograph will carry on in the hands of the master watchmakers who brought the movement to life, for they are now a part of the Ulysse Nardin family. Ulysse Nardin looks forward to releasing the additional manufacture movement in its final “wand” by the end of 2012.
Without hesitation, the acquirement of this manufacture chronograph movement is another testimonial of Ulysse Nardin’s position as a renowned manufacture in the exacting world of watchmaking.

“For years I have had an obsession with doodling Trees wherever I go. It started in high school, to be specific in math’s class, where I would grab a textbook and spend hours perfecting my scribbles – anything to ease my boredom! Over time the image just stuck with me. Just the other day, I remember sketching a tree on a paper napkin for a member of staff who wanted my autograph in a restaurant.
The symbol of a tree exudes many qualities one associates with a leader, or even a great partner. A Provider who's Strong, Protective, Sensitive, Rooted, Creative, or even Selfless. Without sounding like a complete hippie, I really feel Trees possess a certain wisdom and mystery which gives them an aura of enchantment and magic. They epitomise new beginnings, much like when a tree loses its leaves and manages to grow new ones. Their real charm and power lies in being able to exude great strength but also immense sensitivity. If you love the intense look of Clive Owen in his movies like I do, you will understand his long time passion for Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces.
Clive Owen loves and owns the AMVOX range of watches from the beginning and has been a fan even before he was introduced to Jaeger-LeCoultre's CEO Jerome Lambert - who are now good friends.
So it was not much of a surprise when he finally extended his passion to the ultra complicated Duometre Spherotourbillon during the SIHH-2012 Geneva watch fair. After a brief introduction by our Editor-in-Chief Wei Koh and Jerome Lambert, Clive Owen took the pleasure to introduce the exceptional timepiece to the invited guests on that fine Tuesday evening.
Internationally renowned British actor, icon of elegance, but also a humanitarian who dedicates his time and energy to his favourite charities, Clive Owen is a man of his time. A man close to Jaeger-LeCoultre values. A man of today.

The Quadruple Tourbillon Secret represents a special link between Robert Greubel, Stephen Forsey and the collector. The ultimate refinement, this timepiece evokes to the passionate enthusiast the promise of an exceptional movement in which a magical mechanical ballet plays out on a hidden stage visible only through the display back. The dial side redefines the expression of telling the time with its harmonious arrangement of multiple dials. Ultra-exclusive, the Quadruple Tourbillon Secret comes in a unique edition of eight pieces in 5N red gold and eight pieces in platinum.
Conceal . . .
The Quadruple Tourbillon Secret redetermines the expression of time which plays out its many paradoxes. A play of seduction in which fantastic mechanisms are subtly revealed by indications imperturbably bearing witness to their existence; a play in which a contemporary dynamic is created by overlapping curves within curves, in which symmetry gives way to asymmetry.

The ultimate in refinement, the ballet of the tourbillons is visible only through the synthetic sapphire crystal display back. This private micro-mechanical performance becomes a witness to the bond that unites the owner with the values of Greubel Forsey. About 7 weeks ago Cartier did a pre announcement for a few new models of the 'Fine Watch Making' collection, that we extensively discussed here at the forum.
This morning, the 16th. of January, the SIHH opened it's doors and the wait for the all the new 'Fine Watch Making series' is over.
The Mainstrem Collection is also presented this week, but will be posted a few days later.
'Fine Watchmaking' is again thrilling and astonishing this year, first of all from a technical point of view of course but again also from a visual point of view.
Carole Forestier-Kasapi, Head of Movement Design at Cartier and just voted as Watchmaker of theYear, by Revolution Magazine, presents a very strong collection with some models now also in smaller cases!
The show stopper of the new models is, without any doubt, the:

Baselworld 2011 – The Herios TriRetrograde watch is the only square model in the Milus collection. This shaped piece, thus far produced in versions that are feminine, sporting or even featuring dials artistically decorated in cloisonné enamel, is presented in a classic and entirely reworked version. New case, new style but still the famous retrograde display that has become the hallmark of Milus.
If the power and the success of a model can be judged by the originality of its style and its incessant capacity to reinvent itself without ever betraying itself, the Herios TriRetrograde watch is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished watches. Successively sporting, an article of jewellery or decorated in cloisonné enamel, Milus now presents it in a resolutely classical style. An item of great formal beauty, with an emotional design, rigorous and guided by a desire for simplicity and purity. The original square form has thus been reworked to give it a gentleness that is reflected in its many curves, both on the flanks as well as in its profile. To accomplish this work, the designer has gone back to the aesthetics of the 17th century arabesque style from which he has re-transcribed the fineness and lightness, Moderator Sunday 11th of December 2011
A titanium chronograph for time and speed
Stuttgart/Grenchen. A new era has dawned for Porsche Design’s classic Dashboard chronograph series. Ten years after creating the watch inspired from the
dashboard gauges of sports cars, the luxury brand has released the nextgeneration Porsche Design P’6620 Dashboard. The shape and dial are correspondingly
functional. The dial has grown to 44 millimetres, the case is made entirely of titanium.
Powerful design
The new look of the Porsche Design P’6620 Dashboard evokes dynamism and clarity. Like all the products in the luxury brand’s portfolio, this one too was shaped into a precision instrument by the world-famous Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See (Austria). With a diameter of 44 millimetres and a height of 14.5 millimetres, this is a watch that makes itself known on the wrist. The purist dial, the Arabic numerals and the straightforward hands filled with luminescent material combine to turn the chronograph into a clear and unmistakable statement. The two elongated push buttons next to the crown control the start/stop function. The sapphire crystal is nonreflective and the case is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters (10 ATM). The stop function not only captures increments of time, but can also be used in combination with the tachymeter scale to Ian Skellern Thursday 8th of December 2011
The Time Art Gallery brings together and showcases three universes related to the creation and the art of watchmaking: The Greubel Forsey timepiece collection; the co-creation process undertaken with contemporary artists; and the work of master watchmakers whose work Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey consider milestones in horological history. Greubel Forsey chose the multicultural city of Shanghai for the Time Art Gallery due to its ever-increasing prominence in the world of contemporary art.
The Time Art Gallery is located in the beautifully restored waterfront complex, Bund 18, in Shanghai, a cultural crossroads and nerve centre for the thriving contemporary arts scene. In 2006, Bund 18 received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award of Distinction for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

Eight-time Grand Prix winner and two time world champion runner up Jacky Ickx shares with us his love of Chopard timepieces and Formula 1
To a generation of Formula 1 drivers and aficionados who have grown up with the more commercialized view of this high-speed sport, Jacky Ickx may not immediately incite as much blood-pumping adrenaline as Jensen Button or Kimi Raikkonen today. But for those of us who were weaned on Formula 1 vehicles without roll cages, who were glued to our sofas watching Steve McQueen and Aryton Senna, Ickx is a man who is as imposing today, a wise racer who competed with the best in Formula 1 history, and who is still very much venerated today for his skill in the automobile.
While he no longer participates in Formula 1, Ickx is still very much involved in the automotive world as well as the watchmaking world, both as a friend and ambassador of Chopard and personal associate of Karl-Frederich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard. As the watchmaker is a sponsor of the Mille Miglia race, Ickx also takes part in the Italian vintage car parade with Mr Scheufele.

Some kind of commercial magic happens when an object created initially as a tool leaps across the rarefied threshold of our imaginations to become a luxury symbol. In the most successful instances, these objects retain the powerful primacy of purpose forged to serve real practical needs. Nowhere in horology is this purposefulness expressed more clearly than in Blancpain’s legendary dive watch, the Fifty Fathoms. The story of its invention has already become immutably meshed into the fabric of watch cognoscenti lore.
Following World War II, one hero of Charles de Gaulle’s Free French Forces was tasked with the creation of les nageurs de combat — the first incarnation of the French naval commandos. This timepiece marks a first for both Greubel Forsey and the history of GMT watches. After exploring, inventing, and developing new mechanisms in the world of the tourbillon over the last decade, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey have now combined it with a new complication, the GMT, which they have naturally interpreted in their own way.
With this remarkable timepiece, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey have focused their energy on indicating a second time zone, a complication traditionally denoted by GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), the historical reference meridian for navigators.
A highly-practical complication and one greatly-valued by connoisseurs, a second time zone is of particular benefit for globetrotting businessmen, frequent leisure travellers and those with family and friends around the world.
