A New Piece-Unique from Stepan Sarpaneva...

Hi all,

Last year I was contacted by a collector who had a vintage jumping hours movement, AS 1902, he wanted to transform into a super cool watch. No problem. It is my business to help and super cool is Stepan Sarpaneva's business.

After a quick back and forth Stepan agreed to take on the commission, which I relayed to the overjoyed owner. The watch was delivered a week ago. His reaction? "It's awesome. I love it. I'm extremely pleased!"

He graciously allowed me to intercept delivery to photograph his watch. The end result follows.

Korona JGB - Piece Unique

Housed in the 44mm Korona series DLC case

During the design process, while sketching the possibilities, he reversed the 4 on the hours disc... tired eyes, taxed mind, pagan inspiration? Regardless, it struck his sense of mad cool and remained. Following the K1 and K2, the JBG's hour and minute discs are skeletal.

The dial is made from Stainless steel, microblasted and then diamond coated. The design inspiration is a mystery. "If I knew I would tell... I have no idea!" Stepan explains.

After the design was set and in play, Stepan stumbled onto the cosmic force that was guiding him... ;-)

Cheers,

Curtis

Now that's a cool watch! The dial suits perfectly with the jumping hour and minute disc. Totally awesome!

Cheers,

Beautiful simplicity!
I am always impressed by Stepan's ability to regularly find new modes of horological expression- working by himself and following his instincts,
he has a real gift as a watchmaker 'soloist'.

It is hard to believe that such a distinctive design will not find its way onto other of Stepan's watches. I hope so.

its the best piece he's done yet, and its all thanks to your efforts and your friend. Kudos to both of you to allow Sarpaneva to apply his fantastic mind to this project, when I look at this piece it gives me flashbacks of old sci-fi movies from the 60s and 70s, a tinge of Stanley Kubrick in there, I love it.

Thank you,

S
