A Lange Watch for Kids Raises Money for Charity

A piece unique A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk was auctioned off on 27th August 2011 at Singapore’s Kidz Horizon Appeal Charity Ball for S $138,000

A. Lange & Söhne is proud to announce that a piece unqique Lange Zeitwerk was auctioned off for S$138,000 at the Kidz Horzizon Appeal Charity Appeal Ball on 27th August 2011.

Commissioned by Lange CEO Mr. Wilhelm Schmid, this unique timepiece was created in memory of the late Mr. Duncan Wang, a great admirer of A. Lange & Söhne and a patron of The Kidz Horizon Appeal. Proceeds from this auction will go towards helping children suffering from chronic diseases such as cancer or HIV.

The one-of-a-kind LANGE ZEITWERK made for this year’s Kidz Horizon Appeal Charity Ball

As part of their annual fund raising efforts, a charity ball was held at the Ritz Carlton Singapore. The bid for this timepiece started at S$75,000, and escalated very quickly to S$110,000 with a number of people vying for the watch. This coveted timepiece eventually went to the highest bidder, at a final price of S$138,000, almost twice the retail price of a usual production Lange Zeitwerk.

The first ever Lange watch to be produced for a charity in Asia, the design of this unique version, showcasing dark/bright contrasts, is emphasised by a white gold case, grey dial and numeral discs with white numerals, a black crocodile strap, and the folding clasp, also crafted from solid white gold. A special engraving on its caseback bears witness of its uniqueness and the occasion: “1/1 SGP 2011

About Duncan Wang
Duncan Wang, an American Chinese Businessman and a passionate member of the Singapore watch community passed away at the age of 44 years in August 2009. Shortly after his passing, Duncan's parents in the US requested his friends here in Singapore to find a fitting way to remember him each year, based on the two things that this gentleman was most passionate about - his watches and his favourite charities. Thus, in late August 2010, the first "Duncan watch" was auctioned off for The Kidz Horizon Appeal a charity that Duncan himself had supported before his untimely passing.
