The De Bethune Silicon-Titanium Tourbillon 2009

As its defining characteristic, the calibre DB2009 employs the lightest tourbillon in the world designed entirely in silicon and titanium and having neither a cage nor the traditional pillars, but incorporating the latest temperature-compensated silicon / platinum balance. The frequency of this new hand-wound mechanical calibre is 36,000 vibrations per hour and inside a 30 second tourbillon.

Dream One with annular balance.

The simple oscillator of the mechanical calibre DB2016, designed by De4 Bethune, is a genuine achievement in the world of watchmaking. The balance spring of the regulating organ is not visible; it is concealed within an annular balance consisting of a central silicon disc surrounded by a thin ring of polished platinum which can be seen through the dial.

Rate adjustment buttons. By simply pressing on one of the two push-pieces on the back of the watch, the owner of this timepiece can adjust its rate according to the rhythm of their life.

One of the many reasons I like De Bethune is that their watches are generally slim.

Titanium / platinum balance: The De Bethune Manufacture has taken up the challenge of creating the lightest possible balance. This titanium / platinum balance enables mechanical friction to be reduced through the lightness of titanium, the achievement of an ideal inertia / mass ratio and the reduction of the influence of viscous air friction through the ogival shape of the platinum weights.

The balance spring is considered to be the soul of the mechanical watch. It enables the balance to oscillate in a consistent manner. The curve is at the end of the balance spring and the assembly of the balance spring / curve has always presented great difficulty. In 2004 De Bethune developed the flat terminal curve which, through its material and shape, enables all decentring to be compensated for, thus facilitating its fixing and eliminating the delicate process of adjusting its timing.

DBDigitale

The DBDigitale has an instantaneous in-line calendar displaying day, date and month, and jumping hours and minutes in small windows. Available in pink gold or white gold, with a silver or anthracite dial and “Côtes de Genève” decoration, the back of this timepiece conceals a sky sprinkled with stars and a spherical moon phase. The sky is created from a sheet of steel which is pierced with little holes.

The case design of the tourbillion is not for me, but both the silver and blue dialed version of the DB25 are simply stunning! cool smiley

De Bethune: Day 3 pix

It's easy to tell a De Bethune, largely because they're so unique. And don't get us started on the mechanics within...

Every year the DB models look more and more extravagant. Call me old fashioned, but I like the old models a lot more. The DB25 is more my kind of style.
