One of the problems with visiting fairs like the SIHH on a professional level is that you are racing around trying to see and photograph as much as possible that there is little time for catching up here on Horomundi on what others have already commented on. Because if I had read Jaw's excellent post
Poetry in Time:- Van Cleef & Arpels to Unveil the Most Exquisite SIHH-2010 collection! (Win a luxury bound "Van Cleef & Arpels, The Poetry in Time" Coffee Table Book) I would have made an effort to visit Van Cleef & Arpels. As it was, I had the brand down on my 'To do if I have the time and wouldn't really prefer to relax with a nice glass of wine talking to friends.
Then, as fate would have it, I did have a spare moment, and I was just about to sit down relax with a nice glass of wine talking to friends - just outside Van Cleef & Arpels as it happens - when master watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht deftly steers me into the Van Cleef & Arpels stand with 'Ian you must see this' and, before I knew what was happening, introduced me to Louis de Meckenheim, VC&A's Watch Marketing Manager, who commendeered a tray with two timepieces on it - Les Pont des Amoureux and Butterfly Symphony - and he proceeded to show me how they worked.
That the watches looked absolutely stunning and were sublimely executed was immediately evident, but as soon as I saw the indications operating I said 'STOP!', I need video to share this, photos just won't do it. Happily, my Canon 5D MkII does both.
My sincerest congratulations to Van Cleef & Arpels for imagining artistic timepieces unlike anything else and Jean-Marc Wiederrecht and his company AGENHOR, for making the dreams real.
