We are delighted to formally announce that we are preparing to launch The Backes & Strauss Diamond Jubilee Collection. As most of you are already aware Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is marking the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne this year. The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre around the first week of June 2012, coming to the throne on 6th February 1952 the Queen’s coronation took place on 2nd June 1953.
Backes & Strauss London, has been granted permission by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office in Buckingham Palace to use Her Majesty’s Royal Cypher in the design of this unique and historical watch collection.
JUBILEE COLLECTION
The collection will be limited to 60 pieces and each piece will celebrate a year of Her Majesty’s reign. The side of each case will be engraved with the years her reign “1952 – 2012”. The back of the watch will be open with a sapphire glass and the movement will be decorated. The back will also be engraved “Queen’s Diamond Jubilee” and have a year from her reign which will be the serial number of the piece.
We have selected the RE3238 and RE4047 as the two possible sizes, with the choice of either a 2 row or 1 row setting, and as usual the diamonds will be ideal cut.
The dial is the main feature. The base of the dial will have outlines of English roses which will be laquered in the colour Royal purple. The Royal Cypher with Crown and the diamond set numerals will be set into this dial.
At twelve o’clock the diamond set Roman numerals of LX pay homage to HM’s 60 year reign. Backes & Strauss London and E II R and Swiss Made will be printed (decalque) on the dial.
