I am so pleased that after an inexplicably prolonged dry spell they seem to be keeping odd vests in the store again on a regular basis. I picked up one of these:
And I love the idea of pocket watches coming back again.
Very classy to wear one, with the right jacket, but then my wristwatch needs to stay home,
that's hard.
It would be great if the brands start producing pocketwatches again.

. . . I wear a wristwatch and a pocket watch, often! Yesterday the 21 jewel Waltham Riverside in the picture plus a nice square cased Longines calibre 9L from. . . well, before shock protection, anyway ;-) .
I am thinking of starting a club of die hard vest wearing montre-de-poche enthusiasts. God knows it would be inherently impossible to commercialize, though there are still firms that make pocket watches, among them Patek and Vacheron.
I would love to see some of those incredible Cartier "knife" dress pocket watches come back.
It is an interesting problem to create a pocket watch that pushes the limits of what you could actually put in a pocket, rather along the same lines of a wristwatch that's not such a hot fit on the wrist ;-) my favorite pocket watches are the extra flat watches made by eg Vacheron, Jaeger and Cartier in the 20s and 30s, some of the most beautiful watches ever made. They were designed to fit in a waistcoat pocket without ruining the line of the suit. Of course highly complicated pocket watches were and are pretty massive --clock-watches basically. Makes me wonder how often Packard and Graves wore their respective ultra-complicated timepieces. . .something like this:
I am awaiting the day when the pocket watch comes back into vogue... And for all you Brooks Brothers fans... From my personal collection:

My fiancee loathes the ticking, so i can't rightly bring it into the bedroom (smart of her to marry a watch nut)! When i do activate the alarm, it has a nice, vintage sound to it. Still crisp even after all these years.
Eterna does not get the attention it deserves on this side of the pond. Even with all of the innovations they made, mention of Eterna renders virtually no reaction, unless at the Porsche design shops.
We corresponded about it a while back --nice to see it again . Brooks has done some interesting co-branding with watch companies over the years and carried timepieces by good manufacturers. I know they have some quartz and automatic watches in their catalogue but I have a persistent fantasy about working with them on their collection .
Think of how nice an Eterna Madison or Kon-tiki (or any of the current line) would look with a golden fleece at the 12 position.. they have a bicentennial coming up in a few years, heres to hoping...
