April 12, 2012 marked the grand opening of the Italian watchmaker Officine Panerai’s new boutique, located on Singapore’s renowned Orchard Road. Panerai has found in the ION Orchard mall the perfect environment to launch the first Panerai boutique in the Asia Pacific region inspired by a new design concept.
“It is our honor and pleasure to celebrate the opening of the new ION flagship store in Singapore. This boutique will play an extremely important role in the retail expansion of the brand in the region. I invite all those who love watches and Panerai’s history to have a unique experience in this new boutique,” said Mr. Jean-Sebastien Gerondeau, Managing Director Asia Pacific of Officine Panerai.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, witnessed by watch collectors, connoisseurs, business partners, VIPs and media from the Southeast Asia region, was hosted by Officine Panerai executives as well as Ms. Soon Su Lin, CEO of ION Orchard and Mr. Andrea De Felip, Deputy Head of Mission from the Italian embassy.
After the ceremony, guests were ushered into the largest Panerai boutique in the world (120 square meters) to immerse themselves within the Panerai values through different areas in which simple and classic Italian designs expressed the DNA of the Florentine watch brand.
In the evening, honorable guests were escorted to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), a prestigious private gallery housed in a colonial-era building in the Dempsey area. Panerai selected this art-inspired building to create a specially designed exhibition concept leading all visitors into a spectacular journey through a tunnel of time, allowing them to recollect, from the early stages, the fascinating history and legend of the brand. While experiencing their journey within this tunnel of time, guests had an exclusive opportunity to preview a selection of timepieces that were premiered at SIHH 2012 in Geneva.
After being immersed in the world of Panerai, guests were ushered into another section of the museum to discover the culinary highlights of the acclaimed chef André Chiang (one of the world’s best young chefs, according to Wallpaper Magazine), who surprised his audience with amazing creations.
The evening was rounded up by a stunning performance by Singapore’s premier classical string ensemble, the T’ang Quartet. Twenty years after its birth, the Quartet continues to evolve, surprising and delighting audiences with its innovative dexterity. More than a surprise to the guests, the atmosphere of the evening was pushed to the peak by the beautiful performance that filled the hall with euphonious melody.
OFFICINE PANERAI
Officine Panerai was founded in Florence in 1860 as a watchmaking establishment, shop and school. For years, it supplied the Italian Navy with precision timepieces, particularly to cover the needs of the special underwater diving corps. The projects it worked on at the time, including the Luminor and Radiomir watches, were covered by the military secrets act for years, and Panerai watches were launched on the international market after the Richemont group purchased the brand in 1997.
Today, Officine Panerai develops and manufactures its watches and movements in Neuchâtel, combining Italian design and history with Swiss watchmaking know-how. Panerai watches are sold all over the world through an exclusive network of distributors in addition to its boutiques worldwide.
