SIHH 2012 - PAM399 RADIOMIR 1940 - 47 MM

Just saw a few of the new releases by Panerai and I was só blown away
by this new PAM 399, that I just had to post it.
The watch has of course the traditional Panerai looks, but has a totally new crown.
Since it's a limited edition of 100 pieces, I am sure it will be sold out by the end of the week.

Housed in the 47mm case is the mechanical Minerva movement.
Screw down winding crown personalized OP
Back: See-thru sapphire crystal
Dial: Black, with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers.
Seconds at 9 o'clock
Crystal: Plexiglas, 3mm
Waterr-esistant: 3 bar

More news will be posted shortly when Chua is back.

Ciao Geo,thanks for sharing.
I wonder whether this is the start of a collaboration between Panerai and Minerva.

Panerai used Minerva already for the 390 and 322 ( 2 47 mm radiomirs)

This 399 is cool but imo VERY stupid to make only 100 ( 50 because the other 50 are in a set with the same watch in gold)
And concerning the Minerva ... I don't need it
It makes the watch too expensive without a good reason

They should have used a Panerai P.3000 and they should make 1000 of them

My favorites are the 448 and 449

Ciao Bruno,
thanks for remembering that Minerva calibers were used in other Panerai models too....I honestly didn't remeber that.

Concerning the choice of using Minerva calibers i think it is a huge step forward instead than using Unitas ones (even if well reworked by Panerai).
Nowadays Minerva is among the most acclaimed manufactures and the job did with Montblanc is a proof of that. Of course, it would be necessary to know exactly which caliber is used here.
However it is Panerai heritage to make use of many different outsourced calibers (Rolex, Angelus etc).

Limited editions leave always me a little bit cold. Luxury watches should be limited by definition.....

Just my two cents,

Just came back from a business trip....
Yes the PAM399 is very nice. It uses the same dial type as the PAM372, PAM422 and PAM423. The crown of the PAM399 is a special crown taken from the vintage Panerai. This is the first time that Panerai is introducing such crown. The case of PAM399 may be the same as PAM372, but I need to confirm that.

Hope to get the official press kit asap so that I can post more details and pics.

Cheers!

movements were used in PAM309 (not PAM390..smiling smiley) and PAM322 Radiomirs.
Based on past experiences, I am not surprised if we see a regular production of the PAM399 in the Historic Collection in SIHH2013 or 2014 using the P.3000 movt...smiling smiley This is my guess why the PAM398 and PAM399 are using the Minerva movt and limited to 100 pieces only.

Cheers!
