The 2008 Technical Achievement Award goes to Greubel Forsey's Quadruple Tourbillon à Différentiel Sphérique

At the end of the SIHH I had the pleasure to attend a small, but significant, ceremony in Geneva, where Jack Forster - who outside Horomundi is the technical and features editor of REVOLUTION Asia and USA - presented Stephen Forsey with the 2008 Revolution award for Technical Achievement for Greubel Forsey's Quadruple Tourbillon à Différentiel Sphérique (QDT)

L-R: Stephen Forsey, Nicole Segundo, Jack Forster, Wei Koh

Also on hand to take part in the presentation - and making up a great table afterwards for very interesting discussions - were Wei Koh (Group Editorial Director of Revolution), Bruce Lee (Managing Director on Revolution), Emmanuel Vuille (Greubel Forsey’s newly appointment CEO) and Nicole Segundo (Greubel Forsey’s Communication director)

“The tourbillon may be one of horology's most enduring classics, but it can also be one of its most played out clichés. It's a testimony to Greubel Forsey's technical virtuosity that the Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon à Différentiel Sphérique makes the tourbillon look like a vision of tomorrow instead of yesteryear. Two inclined tourbillons linked by a differential are intended to dramatically reduce the effect of gravity on rate beyond anything achievable with a conventional tourbillon. As a benchmark of thinking out of the watchmaking box, the Quadruple Tourbillon is unsurpassed in daring and one of the most flawlessly finished watches in the world.” Jack Forster, technical and features editor of REVOLUTION Asia and USA.

The jury consisted of a panel of international editors from Revolution magazine plus three independent members:
Wei Koh, founder and group editorial director of REVOLUTION
Jack Forster, technical and features editor of REVOLUTION Asia and USA
Denis Peskov, editor and publisher of REVOLUTION Russia/Kazakhstan
Laura Lan, regional editorial director of REVOLUTION Greater China
Lou Corpuz, managing editor of REVOLUTION Hong Kong
René-Pierre Vuistiner, director of REVOLUTION Spain
Paolo Gobbi, editor-in-chief of REVOLUTION Italy
Michel Jeannot, editor-in-chief of REVOLUTION France
Elizabeth Doerr, senior editor of Wristwatch Annual
Laurie Kahle, a Boston-based independent writer formerly of Robb Report who specializes in high horology
Ng Tjeng Jaw, chief moderator and patron of Horomundi.com

And just to note, this was the second year in a row that Greubel Forsey has won this prize: in 2007, the best ‘Technical Innovation’ was awarded to Invention Piece 1, Robert Greubel’s and Stephen Forsey’s tribute to their Double Tourbillon 30°.

. . . for their achievement! The work that Robert and Stephen are doing is in many respects unique. I saw, as you can imagine, an awful lot of watches at the SIHH this year but I saw very little that could compare in brilliance of conception and quality of execution with anything by Greubel Forsey.

A pleasure to see Mr. Stephen Forsey and Ms. Nicole Segundo again, and wonderful to meet new CEO Emmanuel Vuille, who is a gentleman of great culture and intelligence with a strong passion for horology. Thank you all again!

Jack
Another fantastic piece of work. An award well deserved no doubt.
