Please, let me share a very nice evening with you! Two weeks ago I got a call from mr. Merdal Güler, the Benelux brandmanager of Glashütte Original.
Merdal told me he had plans to visit The Netherlands to show the local retailers all the novelties from Basel 2009 and he wanted to have dinner with me so I got a chance to have a chat and of course to show me the novelties too!
Wow! that was a great idea and Merdal asked me if I knew a few other watchfriends to join us. So Edwin, Frank, Geo, Merdal and me had a date and time set for last week.
I decided to make the arrangements in the nice restaurant of The College Hotel in one of the most famous and exclusive districts of Amsterdam, Oud Zuid (Old South). The College Hotel is a hotel runned by students. Just a few are pro's so I thought it would be a nice chance to see how this system works. The husband of Fran, a dear colleague of mine, works at the restaurant (as a pro) and is the sous chef. Here is the entrance of the Hotel, which is in fact an old school building.
But before all of that we headed to the P.C. Hooftstraat. This is the most exclusive shoppingstreet in Amsterdam with very nice shops like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Valentino and on and on with a spot we visit often, The Boutique Tourbillon, one of the two retailers of Glashütte Original in Amsterdam.
We had a lot of (watch)talk, laughs and a few white wines on the terrace.
It was time to go to the restaurant and there was Merdal waiting for us. I was really excited to finally see the Meissen Tourbillon, the Chronometer, the Square Sixties and the other novelties. Since it was my birthday a few days before this meeting Merdal brought me a very nice bottle of Schloss Wackerbarth, which is the "Champagne" of Saxony.
Thank you so much Merdal! very nice of you
"Hey Wim, where did you put that bottle?" "Merdal, I really haven't got a clue!"
the other guys brought me also a present. I recently bought an Ipod Nano and the gift was a great docking station so I can listen to my favourite music in my livingroom without needing the little ears, thanks my friends! really appreciated and a big surprise!
ok, enough talk for now. Here are the pics, let them do the talking! enjoy!
We start with one of the stars, the Chronometer
stunning or not?
the second masterpiece is the Meissen Tourbillon. A beauty on the pics but I was blown away of this piece in real life...
and some shots of the Sport Evo Impact, the Senator Perpetual Calendar in ceramic, the Senator Handdate, the Senator Chronograph XL, the Sixties Square Chronograph, the Senator Navigator Perpetual Calendar and the Lady Serenade Chronograph.
Patrick, the sous chef and his staff made an exquisite 4 course dinner, here is the menu
we started with a steak Tartare Amsterdam style
a Ravioli of Duck liver
sorry, no pic of the main course but it was a delicious Rib Steak, after that some watermelon filled with goat cheese, which was very special,
and for dessert a Chocolat Surprise
all of course accompanied by fine wines. Thank you Patrick!
I hope you guys and gals enjoyed this report and we had a great time for sure. I want to thank Merdal and Glashütte Original for the invitation! Merdal, it was a real pleasure to meet you again and I'm looking forward to the next time!
thanks for looking and if you saw a watch you want to know more about please take a look at the Glashütte Original Website!
cheers, Wim

It was a memorable evening and i'm very greatful Merdal and you offered me the opportunity to enjoy this evening with you guys
In Basel i had already seen these beauties when Thomas Meier, GO's new managing director, presented them... he's a showman!
Thanx GO, thanx Merdal, thanx Wim and of course Edwin and Geo for a superb evening
PS. The chronometer is sooooo beautiful. Functionally and visually stunning and very, very impressive. The day/night indicator, the second stop and reset to 12 when pulling the crown for setting the time, setting time with minute steps and a classic design of a ship's chronometer. The new deployant clasp is a perfect improvement. WOW
It was a wonder eve and for me a great opportunity to see all these new models in the flesh. I really enjoyed the collection and the chance, we had to talk extensively about the pieces. It was very nice meeting you Merdal, love your passion for watches. GEO
Thanks for the excellent pics and coverage of the event... Very interesting watches from GO. I love the Chronometer best - clean, simple and balanced dial...
Some very interesting pieces there, and it seemed you really had a great evening.
At the moment I am undecided what new watch to add to my collection, but a GO, either a dress piece or a more Sporty version are both circling in my my mind. And it doesn't get any better when you keep bringing us nice reports like this
Wow, Thanks for the report and the great pictures. Good to see you had a great evening! And what a beauties! (as Steve Irwin would have said). I would love to see the Chronometer in the flesh.

it's a bit off topic Claus, but since a few weeks my GTG vains are working again...I'm planning a nice one in my head now and will unveal the plans as soon as possible. I don't think it will happen this year but what about a big European Horomundi GTG between SIHH and Basel in Amsterdam?
to be continued!

Looks like a great event. Great food and nice watches are always a good combination. Your GTG plans sound very interesting, Wim - have not been in Amsterdam for a long time. Thanks to Edwin for the awesome pictures!
Okay, tonight I have to admit to my wife that I have fallen in love with the Chronometer. In my eyes that is the most beautiful and well balanced watch I have seen in a long time. That one goes directly to my wish-list.
I'll keep you posted about Amsterdam. I'm for sure it will not happen in 2009 but I'm sure it's worth the wait. I was in Amsterda last night and the vibes were good. I think we can have a great time with all the watchnuts!
stay tuned! cheers and have a great Sunday, Wim
