wow, part IV already! and still a few more to come, I hope you won't getting bored ;-)

this part will show the German Watch Museum, opened since May 2008. There is 1000 m2 filled with over 400 exhibits. The museum is within a 3 minute walk from the Manufacture and you can find here pocket watches, wristwatches, pendulum clocks, escapement models and of course a beautiful exhibition about the history and how it all started. The museum had Ten thousands of guests already and an absolutely must do when you visit Saxony.

I will try to give you a virtual tour by showing you a few pics.

the entrance

Immediately after entering the museum you'll see THE highlight:

the history and the people who founded the watchmanufactures in the past...

the man who made the big beauty

a timeline

a diversity of items

pendulum clocks

pocketwatches

old typewriters and calculators can also be found in the museum

do you see the little mistake in this clock?

several showcases with parts, small and big

a build up line of the Panoretrograph with all its parts, each function displayed

here is the workstation of some master watchmakers in the Museum. this is the place where pocketwatches and pendulums get their services and so on...

thanks all! as you can see, the museum is a museum you have to see in real live!

thanks and stay tuned for part V!

dear regards, Wim

to visit this place when I will be going to Saxony.

Very pleasant to see that this museum has a workshop and people working there to keep things in order.

Do you happen to know if GO carries out repairs of older pieces in their factory or if they are handed over to the museum ?

Hi Mark,

yes, the really old pieces from the past as well as pocketwatches and Pendulum clocks are brought to the servicecenter of the Museum for service and repair. The master watchmakers worked also for years in the GO Manufacture...

When you are the owner of an old piece you can also bring your watch to GO for these repairs and services!

cheers, Wim

I do not believe that Wim and Edwin did miss this. Somehow you can not do that when staying in Germany.
Let's see if they have pictures which witness this.
