Dear Revolusionistas,

As you may now, Glashütte Original has started a partnership with one of the most important film festivals in the world, The Berlinale in Berlin.
a great cultural event and one of the most important dates for the international film industry. Around 300,000 sold tickets, more than 19,000 professional visitors from 115 countries, including 4,000 journalists: art, glamour, parties and business are all inseparably linked at the Berlinale.

I felt very lucky last week because I was invited to visit this festival! So there I went, at Sunday afternoon for a short flight to Berlin Schönefeld. A pleasant detail of short trips like this are that you don't need big suitcases. Only hand luggage so I was out within a few minutes. And there I saw my transfer for a 20 minute drive to my hotel.

So, freshing up and ready for a cold beer in the bar of the hotel, while waiting for René, my dear friend and host. We had some good talks, the last time we saw each other was at Baselworld last year and we went to Essenza, an Italian restaurant just around the corner of the Berlinale Palast.

The Berlinale Palast was our next stop, the Palast is normally a theater for musicals but during the Berlinale festival it is transformed to a movie theater with a capacity for 1600 visitors. The theater has an amazing screen of 17,6 meter x 8 meter and is also the theater where the big premieres and award ceremonies take place.

We went to the red carpet of the theater to see a movie with French moviestar Isabelle Huppert.

The movie is called "Captive" made by Brillante Mendoza.

It's about a group of armed and masked men belonging to the Muslim Abu Sayyaf group burst into a hotel on an island resort and kidnap twelve foreign guests. The attack was intended to target employees of the World Bank, but they have already left the resort. The abductees are tourists and Christian missionaries who are now forced on a gruelling foot march through the Philippine jungle. Together, the hostages and the kidnappers find themselves having to cope with the trials of nature; gradually, the climate of fear, prejudice and hatred evolves into a strange, symbiotic relationship. The contours begin to blur, certainties are called into question. Nothing seems to be the same any more …

Visiting this huge theater is a real treat, a great atmosphere and it was very special to sit in one place with the cast and moviecrew...

After seeing the impressive movie we went to the Glashütte Original Panorama lounge. This lounge is located at the top floor of a big office building near the theater.

The lounge was crowded and it was a pitty there wasn't a clear sky to enjoy the great looks of the city. But we had great drinks, a DJ and of course some watches on display.

there were models of The Seventies

the stunning limited edition of 25 pieces

and, presented to you earlier this week, the Senator Observer

I had a fantastic day! René and I went to our hotel for a well deserved good night rest....
the next morning, after a delicious breakfast we were on the streets of Berlin again, heading to the German Kinemathek. This is a museum with permanent exhibitions about the German movie and television history. On our way it was very clear who is, for the second year, a big partner of the festival...

We started with the Television exhibition, I made a few iPhone pics to share...

there were a lot of mirrors and wow, this was a bit creepy! Although the mirror floor was about 4 inches below I was a bit scared to step "down" LOL

here they are, stars from the past

Tom Cruise playing in "Cocktail" is easy to find cool smiley

The movie exhibition showed us the history of movie from the early twenties on...
Still movie, the first movie with sound and after that there was colour...
Of course one of the biggest diva's of movie history played a big role in the exhibition, Marlene Dietrich

The visit to the exhibition was very nice! If you'll ever visit Berlin I really can recommend it so put it on your to do list...

So, my visit to Berlin went to an end. We ended the trip in the Panorama lounge for a good Cappucino and a light lunch. I said goodbye to René and went back to the hotel to pick up my bag. After a short while my transfer was there again to bring me back to Berlin Schönefeld.

Dear René, I want to thank you and Glashütte Original for having me, I had a great time and hopefully till next year, at the Berlinale 2013!

cheers and thanks for watching all!

Wim

Fantastic, interesting tour of the Berlinale, the museum and exhibits. Glashutte is certainly at the very forefront there! Well deserved, too, in my estimation. That museum looks wonderfully interesting.
When I first saw a Senator Sixties watch that a friend on mine had a few years ago, I became very interested in Glashutte watches. It would be so nice to see the 70s three different dials all together in that lovely Panorama Lounge!
Sorry to go off topic. One Glashutte model that has always fascinated me, is the Senator Meissen "unlimited edition" with the Dresden ceramic dial, and the hand painted romans and Meissen crossed swords logo. Was it on display?
I was interested to see the poster of the Titanic. It brings to mind the Titanic exhibition, which I saw about 6 years ago in San Francisco. Another beautiful and worthwhile exhibition.
Thanks so much for the great presentation!
Cheers,
Carl

it was very nice indeed!

the lounge is always there but for two weeks it is transformed in a Glashütte Original lounge. It's not very strange you never heard about it, this was the second year that GO has a partnership with the Berlinale.
cheers, Wim
