A friend of mine asked me to help him. He is a starting watch collector and he loves the watches from the Glashütte Original Manufacture. Last year he made the decision to fill his piggy bank with the purpose to buy a GO. The time is near and he planned to make his final choice before Christmas.
I gave him a catalogue and he started to flip the pages, back- and forward and over and over again...
He sharpened his pencil and added pro's and con's on each page...skip this one...or not...not my cup of tea, beyond my budget, maybe that one...or maybe not...bracelet, leather, size?
you can imagine he was dazzled and drunk at a certain time LOL
But finally there are two watches left....
please, tell him, and me, which one you should choose...
of course, we all know, take the one that smiles at you most etc. etc...
He knows he is the only one to make the final choice but he would be very happy with a little help from the REVO-Online friends...
Generally my personal preference is for slimmer dress watches than bulkier complications, but in this case I think the extra 2mm goes a long way in making the proportions balanced and I'm sure that looking at the chronograph mechanism will give longer-lasting entertainment and pleasure.
If your friend already had a good few watches then I might have gone the other way, but in this case my hand is up for the Senator XL Chronograph
I would go for the chronograph, i don't like the date subdials as they draw attention from the overall cleaness of design.
Also, the chrono is a "more prestigious" movement than any time-only watch, and is more enjoyable to use and to look at.
Finally, in terms of potential re-sale value, i believe that the chrono would re-sell better.
. . . Hand Date; I think the size is just right and the dial design extremely appealing --the chronograph is lovely too but I just want it to be a bit smaller.
Thank you all for you input and opinions. The chrono is also my personal choice although, after seeing Frank his pic, I still have some doubts about the dial color...black or silver
I will take him to the AD in a short time and hopefully he can try both on his wrist....
other opinions are still welcome!
cheers, Wim
