avatar Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk 1000m fully reviewed!
July 11, 2011 02:56PM
Recently Girard-Perregaux released a new version of the Sea Hawk Pro 1000m and although they changed only a few details, these are the details that matter. The new orange ‘plonguer’ style minute hand is adds a lot to the imago of Girard-Perregaux’s esteemed dive watch. I got a few weeks to test it! hot smiley

The overall appearance... The Sea Hawk Pro 1000m looks big at first, but when strapped on the wrist it actually wears very comfortable and it doesn’t look too big. The case, dial, diver’s bezel, rubber strap and folding clasp are all designed for a rugged, tough and bold diver’s watch and the finish of everything on this watch is absolutely superb. The overall impression of this watch is that everything seems perfectly balanced and harmonious.

To be honest... it was really hard to take it of my wrist when the Sea Hawk had to be returned to Girard-Perregaux sad smiley

avatar The Sea Hawk is a pillar in GP's current collection

and I always dreamed of wearing one for a few weeks. You have fulfilled this Frank. Thanks for your report and your pictures !

Once you know that fully wound is at 3 o'clock, you do not need a glowing scale anymore for the power reserve. However GP should add a luminous dot at the end of the seconds hand or make the entire hand glow in the dark. This would deliver that extra information when immersed in dark waters and bring the comfort of knowing that the movement ticks fine just when it is mostly needed.

It makes also sense for all the office divers, see the seconds move when the watch rests on the bedside table grinning smiley.

It would indeed be an asset if the point of the seconds hand was luminous as well!

I never expected to like this watch so much, but wearing it for a while was convincing enough for me to realize I would love to own one and wear it a lot. Usually I'm a sucker for independent watchmakers, however I would love to be able to add such a Sea Hawk to my collection. Also the previous version with black bezel looks very nice.

Cheers,
Frank

Great experience to test the GP Sea Hawk Frank.
In three weeks time you must be able to get a good impression of he watch.
I remember the previous version of the Sea Hawk very well and I find the new version
with polished crown protector, lugs and numerals, very appealing and quite an improvement.
Great photographs; thanks!

love the orange hand !

ciao Frank,
thanks for the review and for putting under the lights one of the best designed divers' watch (at least to me).
Indeed it is - toghether with the WW.TC collection - one of GP true pillars.

I am a proud owner of a Sea Hawk GGYC since some years, i have to say that despite the size it is comfortable (the curved lugs help a lot) and in some way understated. In any case, one of the most weared watches among my collection.

This new edition is a real improvement, i looooove the orange hand...it makes a watch so...divers !!!
Real downside is that to be considered a certified diver's watch you should have something telling you - even in the dark - that the watch is running.
The small tiny second hand is not glowing (and sometimes it is hardly visible in the sunlight) and this is something GP should correct.

So this beauty should be left for desk diving only....But tha'ts not a pity to me !

bye fom Milano,

Nice to hear the opinion of a Sea Hawk owner! I was seriously and very positively surprised by the Sea Hawk. The design always appealed to me, but the comfort was a new positive point. And indeed the orange hand.... it looks GREAT thumbs up

Cheers,
Frank
