Dear all,
it is really interesting to notice how the love for watchmaking and for photography often go toghether.
I really like the pictures many of you are able to take of watches, making them even better than in reality :D.
The macros i see here makes me really crazy !

In this field i still have a lot to learn, but however thru the years i tried to follow my own path in taking pictures.
I have an humble equipment, a D90s and some average lenses, but i try to focus on originality and sometimes for this purpose i make use of digital helps such as Photoshop.

My passion has always been shared among few "physical" friends, but now i decided to jump into the web and to put there some of my most meaningful pix.
You are my horological web-friends so you're the first to be invited to take a tour on [slidingpictures.blogspot.it] ...... Still under construction and continuously updated, but can give you an idea....

The 5D II + 100 is superb, I am sure you will be satisfied with the outcome.
Smart that you also got the "pancake" 40mm/2.8 for wristshots, since the 100 is really long
for shots that close.
I have not seen the "pancake" 40mm/2.8 yet, is it that new?
Looks really fantastic. Pretty much everyone I know who has an X10 seems to have fallen in love with it. I'd buy one right now if it weren't for the fact that there is no conceivable way I can justify spending money on another camera ;-) .

With watches and with camera's you never fully know if what you buy is what suits you. Sometimes a dream watch looses a lot of appeal when finally on the wrist, because it is just not right. With a camera, nothing beats taking it through it's paces, but even then you can find out that it is not the one for your. Well, this is not the case between me and the X10! What a camera it is!

First of all I truly like the speed with which I can switch between all the different modes. Setting this camera is very intuitive, and therefor you can quickly adjust your settings, based upon your needs. It has a great grip and fits perfectly in my hand. When holding it in your hands you can truly feel the quality of the camera, and on a couple of occasions after making a shot my thumb actually went to the place where in the "old days" I could find the film-transport lever to get ready for the next shot....

Since it is relatively light and small it is perfect to take on the road, so you can still get high quality results when you are on the go. Although I didn't buy the X10 for this, are also it's capabilities as a movie camera more then good enough for online video's.

I also noticed that I really appreciate having an optical viewfinder again. In the heat of the battle I actually use both this, as well as the screen itself to see what I am taking a picture of. Same appreciation I have for the manual zoom lens. It really gives you control over your picture. What you don't have much control over is the amount of attention the X10 gets. I had a wide variety of people approach me and ask about the X10. That is something I simply expected.

My only problem with the X10? This camera is so much better than I am as a photographer, so I definitely have my work cut out for me to level this a bit out!

Of course pictures say especially in this case more then words, so here are a couple of untouched pictures straight from the camera;

With 36 frames in a film, one better think twice before pressing the button.
A complete different discipline and in fact, a much more interesting way of working, than digital.
Although I shoot only digital since 2000, I never learnt to use my camera like a film camera
and come home from a city trip with 2300 pictures.
I find it interesting to read how serious you are with your M and it inspires me to do more.
Have been pretty lazy with photography lately and have to pick it up again.

Another advantage of living in NYC, so many photographers, to keep the film industry
alive.

You can pretty much get any 35mm black and white film that is still being made here in New York, but you have to go to a specialist --Adorama and B&H Photo have it, and there's a lab near my house that carries some as well.

I can get Kodak, Ilford, Fuji, Efke, Foma, Rollei, and Agfa at B&H, which is not far from my house, but then again I live in New York --I imagine it's pretty hard to find anyone stocking black and white film anymore outside major cities.

Glad you like the shot, by the way --I'm reasonably happy with how it turned out which is unusual for me. It really is amazing, shooting street photography, how few keepers there are. Though that seems to be the nature of the beast --my wife just got me Cartier-Bresson's "The Modern Century" and the introduction discusses just this issue --even for a photographer as disciplined as HCB, the ratio of really interesting successful images to ones that ultimately don't work for some reason is pretty incredible. I keep thinking of something Elliott Erwitt said --that the nature of photography is failure, but one can at least try to have interesting failures. ;).
