Mondaine goes mechanical

So far I always have been a big admirer of the watch mondaine produces for the wrist in tribute to the official Swiss Railway Clock, but I have never owned one, the main reason being that they were only available with quartz technology. With the one presented here, I'll have to get one soon.

Swiss Tradition combined with Retro Chic.

Form and function blend harmoniously in the shaped Retro styled watch from Mondaine. The watches with integrated leather band and a curved sapphire crystal that magnifies the characteristic dial to further enhance the chic retro style. Watch aficionados will appreciate the transparent case-back (scratch resistant sapphire crystal) revealing the Swiss made automatic movement inside. The Retro collection was created for the high-end consumer looking for a timepiece that transitions easily from classic to casual.

Created for superior durability each timepiece has been tested water resistant to 10 ATM. The Retro Automatic watch is accompanied by a two-year warranty, and backed by the Mondaine International Service Network (MISO).

Mondaine represents affordable luxury. The timepiece design is distinct, clean and immediately identifiable thanks to its signature red seconds hand, which also offers superior legibility. This is a superb selling point for retailers and a high-demand feature for consumers. The timepieces are crafted of high quality materials and are Swiss made.

Mondaine Watch Ltd. is the creator of the Official Swiss Railways Watch collection, licensed by the “Swiss Railways SBB” and launched just over 20 years ago. It represents the consumers’ version of the Swiss Railways Clock. In Switzerland, 3,000 of these famous Swiss clocks have indicated the precise time at all Swiss train stations for more than 60 years.

Right you are, the clock and the watch look the same but

there is that tiny difference :

While the second hand of the clock ticks in a little less than 60 sec, stops at 12 o'clock, waits for the minute hand to jump to the next step before starting again, the wristwatch ticks like every other wristwatch. There has been a version some years ago, based on quartz technology, christened "stop to go" where the same was achieved in the wristwatch but that model is sold out and I never had the chance to see one so far.

A few weeks ago, Jack started a thread "What do you use as a time reference for setting your watches?" where I mentioned the Swiss Railway Clock.
This is what you see in every train station around Switzerland.

how mondaine design for the railways clocks is as part of Switzerland every day life as the good cheese or the mountains in the background.
If I remember correctly, the mondaine has a special way to display the time when the full minute has passed. it kind of stops and then the minute hand moves and then it seems to start again, or something like that.

the wristwatch is obviously faithful to the clock design with the typical second hand with the big red dot.

lovely.
