Breaking News: Ulysse Nardin Announces Acquisition of Ebel's Chronograph Movement

Press release from Ulysse Nardin:

"Ulysse Nardin takes another swift step toward independence with the acquisition of the Ebel in-house chronograph movement. A revered and reliable movement, it has been considered one of the finest on the market for 17 years – a true success story. Interestingly, the Ebel Chronograph story of development began in parallel with one of Ulysse Nardin’s most notable breakthroughs: the Perpetual Calendar.
The commonality is a grassroots movement that was optimized and adapted to each of these two outstanding products, allowing both brands to realize their dream of innovation. With the Ulysse Nardin purchase of the movement, it is as if the twin brothers have found each other.

The story of this chronograph will carry on in the hands of the master watchmakers who brought the movement to life, for they are now a part of the Ulysse Nardin family. Ulysse Nardin looks forward to releasing the additional manufacture movement in its final “wand” by the end of 2012.

Without hesitation, the acquirement of this manufacture chronograph movement is another testimonial of Ulysse Nardin’s position as a renowned manufacture in the exacting world of watchmaking."

Hmmm....what does this mean?

A rather vague press release by Ulysse Nardin. What does this all exactly mean? Did they just buy the rights to also make the movement? There are hints in the text that the actual watchmakers who created the chronograph movement for Ebel are also transfering to UN, so there might be more happening. I also read hints that Ebel developed the chronograph movement and UN the Perpetual calendar module for it that Ebel is using, although I had no idea that Ebel actually worked together with UN.

Also, Ebel is owned by Movado which is publicly traded and one would expect that they would communicate such important transaction with the (investment)world. So interesting news to say the least!
