Rather than put a basic PR text about the RM 036 online, which is already everywhere on the Net for your perusal, I thought it might be more interesting to give a bit more information about a new construction it uses instead.

As many of you already know, Jean Todt and Richard have been friends for many years, and Jean already has quite a few RM timepieces in his collection. Richard felt it was a good moment to create a special watch for Jean, an RM that had some hitherto unrealised, complicated feature. Because of Jean's role as president of the FIA, Jean and Richard's interest in racing cars (and cars of all kinds for that matter) as well as their interest in road safety, the idea fell upon the creation of a G-Sensor type of watch construction.

This is actually nothing new in the world of quartz; G-Sensors have been implemented for a while now in different forms. It i a different matter in the world of the tourbillon however. So this immediately presented a big challenge to Richard. 'How can I stay true to mechanical haute horlogerie and make such a sensor?' was a primary issue for him. A discussion ensued of course with the development team in Les Breuleux and also at APR&P, and the result was a purely mechanical solution, which is elegant and seemingly simple in its execution:



It is an unassuming, yet difficult to realise construction.
The indicator, able to measure between 0-8 G's, occupies a separate 'G-Force' bridge, just above the position of the winding barrel. Below this is a rectangular weight, running on a track composed of two rods with a round profile and an upper side with a row of teeth. A small spiral spring (not clearly visible here) acts as a kind of 'equilibrium' for the weight. As the G-Forces go into action, the weight will move along its track, thus moving the indicator along its scale. The lever 'g' is attached to a pusher; in combination with the small round ratchet wheel, this allows one to reset the G-Force indicator after each use as required.

For those of you who know about watchmaking, it will all seem rather simple structurally. However, when you realise the extremely small tolerances allowed for this to work, the problems of lubrication and alignment that need to be solved, it is certainly no 'piece of cake' to create it.

I rather like the fact that it is such a straightforward, mechanical construction, that at the same time requires enormous accuracy to create and assembly. It is one of a number of 'proofs' how modern technology can still be quite at home within the confines of centuries old watchmaking traditions.

During the last factory visit I led for the team from Harrod's, we were extremely lucky to see one of the new RM056 Sapphire just finished before getting its strap and being shipped out to a happy new owner somewhere…

As far as i know, these quick and dirty pictures are the first pictures of an actual, finished product on the Internet at the moment as the others were prototype concepts.

All I can say is that the pages I've seen so far look fantastic and it will be great to finally have all the information at hand in a fine edition.

(no replies) http://revo-online.com/forums/main/read.php?18,1007846,1007846#msg-1007846 It is a bit of old news now, but when I went to visit APR&P (who manufacture all the complicated movements for RM) with a group of Chinese visitors about 4 weeks back, I was appalled to see rocks placed in front of the building as an 'anti-break-in' setup and the windows partly covered up. It seems there was an attempted robbery about a month before our visit.



The thieves did not get very much; they stole the mock-up watches from the showcases, so what they got was basically worthless.



Nonetheless, there has been a marked increase of robberies in the Le Locle/Chaux de Fonds region in the last years.
With the French border very close by, and many ways of leaving Switzerland on trails as well as roads, this has been a problem for centuries….but it has taken a turn for the worst compared to 10 years ago for sure.

In the past 2 years, RM has been investing heavily in the creation of a new factory for case making.
Presently still under construction, it is planned for opening towards the end of this year.

There are a number of reasons this step was taken; of course, the sale of case maker Donzé Baume to the Richemont Group about 5 years ago was one aspect that meant RM would have to find new sources. More importantly, Richard was happier having more direct control over case making, as the delays in getting cases was getting longer and longer.

In this way, RM will be able to act even more quickly to the realization of new ideas, and have an even better supply of cases than was the situation previously. I will keep you posted as the factory gets nearer completion.

Especially that blue RM008 is my favorite, but far outside andy budget of mine. Also ilk the way these watches also make the first use of the case treated with the rectangles at 12 and 6 o'clock.

That is to say that after the remaining pieces have beens sold, their production will be discontinued.

This is quite logical, seen that the RM021 and RM022 have clearly taken the place of 002 and 003 already now for a couple of years, so this is probably not unexpected news for many of you. Seen the new split seconds caliber RMCC1 in the RM050, the similar situation will slowly apply to the 004 and 008.

So for those of you who have these watches, they are on the shortlist of future collector's items!
For me anyway, the RM002 is always going to be the essential and iconic RM of all time and my personal favorite.

Bubba Watson defeated South African Louis Oosthuizen on the second hole of a sudden death playoff after both players completed the 4 rounds of regulation play with a score of 278, 10 under par. Bubba Watson won the first of the 2012 Majors largely thanks to an incredible shot on the 10th hole which was the second playoff hole. His ball landed on a bed of pine needles and his view to the green was obscured by the surrounding Georgia pine trees. He was able to forge a path around the trees hitting a hook shot which was appreciated by the cheering patrons. He then two putted for a par 4 to secure the victory after Oosthuizen had been unable to convert his par putt.

Bubba Watson, renowned for his long driving and imaginative play, is only the third left handed golfer to win The Masters. He is also the 8th consecutive player to win his first Major title. ‘It’s a dream come true’ confessed Bubba Watson, ‘I cried all the tears I had in me’. Bubba Watson’s victory catapults him to 4th in the World Golf Rankings and to 2nd place in the Fedex Cup.

As with Formula 1 racing, tennis and polo, golf is a precise sport with no concessions and it is a sport which demands physical performance and endurance. It was an amazing visit; although I have seen many case makers before, I have never seen cases made in this manner. In actuality, the cases are literally ground into shape, just as if they were lenses. This explains the unbelievable costs and time involved.

Stettler produce virtually all the Swiss watch industry's glasses, including such little bits like the lenses for Rolex date windows, Max Busser's amazingly curvaceous creations and of course, the first full sapphire case for the RM056 that was the rage of the SIHH and consequently went viral in the watch world's press.

The new RM 055 Bubba Watson is inspired by the RM 038 Bubba Watson tourbillon watch presented in
2011. Its mechanical movement in grade 5 titanium displays extreme skeletonization, with a PVD- and
Titalyt® treated baseplate and bridges. This combination provides the whole structure with optimum
rigidity and excellent surface flatness and finish, essential aspects for the perfect functioning of the
gear train. The caliber RMUL2 is thus capable of withstanding accelerations of over 500-G’s.
The movement is equipped with a variable-inertia balance wheel, which ensures reliability in the event
of impacts and during assembly and dismantling, thus improving the long-term accuracy of the
timepiece. The regulator index is eliminated, and a more accurate and repeatable inertia adjustment
is possible thanks to four small adjustable weights located directly on the balance wheel. The doublebarrel
mechanism helps to improve and equalize long-term torque stability: This is achieved by
dispersing the stored energy within two winding barrels, equalizing torque as well as reducing pressure
and friction on the bearings and pivots, resulting in improved long-term performance.
The RM 055 Bubba Watson is assembled using several sizes of spline screws in both the case and the
movement. These screws age well and provide better control of the torque applied during assembly,
and are therefore unaffected by the physical manipulations involved in assembly and disassembly.
The distinct construction of the RM 055’s case is designed to meet the demanding requirements of
sportsmen. Thus the ATZ bezel is made from tubes of aluminum oxide powder injected at a pressure
of nearly 2,000 bars. This high-pressure injection increases rigidity by 20 to 30% and reduces the
material’s porosity to an absolute minimum. ATZ is known for its high scratch-resistance (1,400 Vickers)
and its unchangeable color. Next to diamond, it is one of the hardest materials in the world. Long and
difficult machining using diamond tools is required to create a perfect example of this complex, curved
bezel and satin finish.
The case middle and back bezel are in grade 5 titanium with a protective white rubber casing. This
rubber is injected at high pressure around the titanium components, thus insulating the movement
from all vibrations. This special surface treatment also makes the watch very comfortable to wear.
A worthy successor to the RM 038 Bubba Watson, the RM 055 is a highly technical creation that is
innovative, sporting and hand-finished in the finest watchmaking traditions.

BALANCE WHEEL WITH VARIABLE INERTIA
This type of balance wheel ensures greater reliability in the event of impact as well as during assembly and disassembly of the movement. This improves precision in the long term. There is no need for an index plate, and it is possible to adjust the inertia more finely and more frequently directly on the balance wheel using 4 adjustable small weights.

DOUBLE BARREL SYSTEM
The double barrel system helps improve torque stability over a longer period by reducing pressure and wear on the teeth, bearings and pivots, resulting in improved performance.

CASE
Richard Mille has turned to ATZ for the bezel of the RM 055 BUBBA WATSON case, with a r rubberized grade-5 titanium caseband and back

The ATZ bezel is based on aluminium oxide powder tubes injected at a pressure of 2,000 bar. This high-pressure injection increases rigidity by 20-30% and reduces the material's porosity to an absolute minimum.
ATZ has the reputation of being a particularly scratch-resistant material (1,400 Vickers), and possessing an unchangeable colour. After diamond, it is one of the hardest materials in the world. A long and difficult machining and moulding process using diamond tools is necessary to create the complex form of this bevel, which is given a final matt surface finish.

These qualities make this the ideal material for a bezel, an area highly exposed to impact.

The case middle and back are in grade 5 titanium with a protective white rubber casing. This is based on the principle of rubber being injected at high pressure around the titanium component. This injected elastomer isolates and absorbs any vibration.

The combination of grade 5 titanium, an exceptionally light and resistant material, with the softness and strength of rubber, makes for very comfortable wearing.

The case of the RM 055 is water resistant to 30 metres. It is assembled using 20 grade 5 titanium screws and abrasion-resistant washers in 316L stainless steel.

Aviation and aeronautics have always been sources of inspiration for Richard Mille. As such, materials including titanium, carbon nanofiber, honeycombed orthorhombic titanium aluminide, ARCAP or even tungsten carbide have all found applications in the collection, stepping out of the aeronautical world and into the realms of watchmaking for the first time. The mechanical and aesthetic properties of these materials are now recognized in Haute Horlogerie in just the same way as precious metals. To explore these themes in greater depth, Richard Mille has created a caliber designed for flight navigation. This complete and technically sophisticated instrument is an ultra-modern interpretation of an essential device used by every established pilot. It also reproduces the materials and visual codes used in the aviation industry.

The RM 039 AVIATION E6-B displays much of the same information provided by the famous E6-B flight computer, which was invented in the United States by Naval Lieutenant Philip Dalton during the 1930s. This round slide rule, incorporated into the bidirectional rotating bezel, can be used to read off and calculate fuel burn, flight times, ground speed, density altitude or wind correction, as well as the fast conversion of units of measurement (Naut/KM/Gallons/Liters/Feet/KG/LBS). The RM 039 tourbillon caliber is also equipped with a UTC hand, a countdown mode, an oversize date at 12 o'clock and a function selector. The tourbillon movement drives a flyback chronograph featuring an exclusive design. This complication provides pilots with a fast, practical device for measuring a series of successive elapsed times when navigating through different marker points. The flyback chronograph function combined with the E6-B flight computer brings the possibility of real time measurement to its functionality and applications.

By uniting all these functions in the RM 039, Richard Mille has extended the applications of the E6-B slide rule and turned it into an instrument that is even better suited to a pilot's needs. When preparing for a flight, the E6-B slide rule remains the most accurate device for determining the necessary fuel reserve and density altitude (essential for take-off and landing). The fact that the E6-B flight computer needs no power source also makes it an extremely safe flight instrument for pilots, even today.

This new Richard Mille caliber respects all the codes and requirements of Haute Horlogerie, notably in the close attention devoted to every detail of the movement and case, both of which are remarkable for their exceptional finishing and complexity.
The design of this tourbillon flyback chronograph required many years of research and development. This unique complication is the first of its kind at Richard Mille and the first of its kind in the world.
This includes some 740 parts, 58 jewels and a power reserve of circa 70 hours displayed at 2 o'clock. It also incorporates the new patented crown mechanism presented on the RM 037, which protects the movement from shocks and poor manipulation.

BASEPLATE AND BRIDGES IN TITANIUM
The baseplate has been finished in grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible, highly corrosion-resistant and remarkably rigid alloy, which enables the gear train to function effortlessly. The alloy is 90% titanium, 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium. This combination further increases its mechanical properties, which explains its frequent use in the aerospace, aeronautical and automobile industries.
The skeletonized baseplate and the bridges have been subjected to intensive and complete validation tests to optimize their resistance capacities.

FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPH
The architecture of this movement has enabled a coherent and rational arrangement of components. It avoids superfluous superimpositions and features technical solutions that optimize its functions. For example, the geometry of the column wheel has been designed to ensure perfect synchronization of the control of the different levers, even over the long term. This synchronization is essential for creating a faultless timing instrument. This new design has been implemented to conserve regulation and ensure perfect long-term operation.
Operation : the user can start or stop the chronograph by means of a pusher located at 10 o'clock. The flyback function can be reset to zero at any time using the pusher located at 8 o'clock.
To stop : use the start/stop pusher located at 10 o'clock to stop the chronograph, then press the reset/flyback pusher

COUNTDOWN
The hand of the chronograph minutes counter can be used in countdown mode by means of a pusher located at 9 o'clock. Pressing it once activates the function. An aperture at 7 o'clock displays the mode selected: ON for countdown mode and OFF for chronograph mode.

Operation: a pusher at 4 o'clock enables the hand to be adjusted quickly between 59 minutes and 01 minutes. Pressing lightly will advance the hand by one minute, while pressing more firmly will advance it by 5 minutes. Once the countdown time has been set, the pusher at 10 o'clock can be used to start the chronograph. When the minutes hand reaches zero, the display at 7 o'clock changes to OFF. At any moment, the function can be reset to zero via the flyback by pressing the pusher at 8 o'clock.

OVERSIZE DATE DISPLAY
Semi-instantaneous, it is horizontally placed beneath 12 o'clock and functions via two skeletonized calendar discs. The date can be easily corrected using the pusher located at 2 o'clock.

UTC FUNCTION
The RM 039 Aviation E6-B features the display of a second time zone by means of a hand filled with superluminova. It can be easily adjusted using the function selector.

FUNCTION SELECTOR
In a manner similar to a car's gearbox, a push-button located at the center of the crown allows one to select the winding, neutral and hand setting functions with a simple push. A hand at 4 o'clock displays the selected function: W (Winding) – N (Neutral) – H (Hands).) – U (UTC, setting the UTC hand).

BALANCE WHEEL WITH VARIABLE INERTIA
This type of balance wheel which represents the ultimate in innovation, guarantees greater reliability when subjected to shock and also during assembly and dismantling of the movement, thus achieving better chronometric results over time. The index is eliminated, thereby allowing a more precise and repeatable adjustment using 4 setting screws.

FAST ROTATING BARREL (5 hours per revolution instead of 7.5 hours)
This type of barrel provides the following advantages:
- The phenomenon of periodic internal mainspring adhesion is significantly diminished, thereby increasing performance,
- Provision of an excellent mainspring delta curve with an ideal power reserve/performance and regularity ratio.

CASE
The case features a unique three-part structure. The system is completed by the incorporation of horns in the case assembly. The three-part case of the RM 039 is very difficult to make. After a turning operation lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes, no less than 800 milling operations are required, taking several hours. Machining demands nearly 11 hours of separate operations. It is followed by a meticulous quality control procedure that takes a full day for each case. The 5 pushers, their components and the crown of the RM 039 require 10 days of machining, during which they undergo numerous tests for water-resistance and quality control, followed by the manual brushing and polishing of the entire case. All of these stages are vital in producing the characteristic ergonomic quality of Richard Mille watches. To facilitate reading off altitude density, the RM 039 has a movable indicator at 2 o'clock incorporated into the edge. This edge is also equipped with a button, which raises the indicator up when pressed once. This ensures a more accurate read-out.

BIDRECTIONAL BEZEL WITH E6-B SLIDE RULE
The bezel of the RM 039 provides a large amount of information positioned on the E6-B slide rule:

Rotating bezel
The yellow transfers show a logarithmic scale (from 10 to 99) and the units of measurement, in red, can be used to convert the measurements used in aeronautics. Equivalents can thus be found between kilometers (KM), nautical miles (NAUT) and statute miles (STAT), or between liters (Liters), US gallons (US GAL) and imperial gallons (IMP GAL). Meters (Meters) can also be converted into feet (FT), and kilograms (KG) into pounds (LBS) and vice versa. The indications shown in yellow on the outside at 9 o'clock enable the air temperature to be selected from -60°C to +50°C. This is essential for calculating real altitude in flight in relation to temperature. An altitude scale is provided via a red transfer on the outside of the bezel at 12 o'clock. It is expressed in thousands of feet, from 0 to 50. The same scale is visible on the outside (white transfer) at 2:30, but graduated in this case from -10 to +45. Using these two scales on the outside of the bezel combined with the slide rule enable real flight speed to be calculated in relation to air temperature and altitude.

Fixed bezel
A second logarithmic scale (from 10 to 99) can be used to read off conversions of units of measurement. It also has an hour scale from 1 o'clock (rate 60) to 9 o'clock. This scale can be used to solve any problem related to distance, speed and time. By combining the logarithmic scales on the fixed and rotating bezels, values can be added, subtracted, multiplied and even divided. Positioned at 9 o'clock, the yellow transfer shows the scale in thousands of feet from 0 to 30 and the red one at 12 o'clock shows an air temperature scale from -70°C to +50°C. Lastly, the fixed bezel of the RM 039 gives an altitude indication in thousands of feet (located at 2:30). Read-off is facilitated by the addition of a movable indicator incorporated in the edge of the case-middle.

The desired calculation will depend on the position of the rotating bezel in relation to the fixed bezel. This bezel is exceedingly complex, and required many months of research to combine the easy adjustment and optimum legibility of these various calculations and their results.

UPPER FLANGE
In titanium with a black surface treatment, its hour-markers are filled with an approved luminescent substance.

DIAL
In sapphire (thickness: 0.40 mm) with anti-glare coating (both sides), protected by 8 silicon clamps inserted in the outer and inner grooves.

CRYSTAL

RM 031 HIGH PERFORMANCE
The concept of performance, whether chronometric or technical, has been an obsession at Richard
Mille ever since the brand was founded in 2001. It recurs in each of its designs, developments and
creations.

Innovation, original concepts and the use of new, increasingly high level performance materials have
enabled the creation of some truly outstanding pieces, such as the RM 015 Perini Navi with its subtle
representation of the nautical world, the RM 025 with its tourbillon chronograph movement that is
water-resistant to 300 meters, or the more recent RM 050 Felipe Massa tourbillon split seconds
chronograph, one of the most complex movements of its kind in the market.

With the RM 031 High Performance, Richard Mille decided to create a very orthodox product, a watch
set firmly in the realm of Haute Horlogerie and its associated expertise, which simultaneously combines
great purity of line with components offering exceptional performance. All experience gained over the
last few years have been combined in the elaboration of this extremely precise watch.

The caliber RM031 is equipped with an AP direct-impulse escapement. Developed by APR&P for
Audemars Piguet , this new escapement represents a subtle combination of a detent escapement and a
Swiss anchor escapemen. The AP escapement provides an improved chronometric results thanks to the
direct action of the escapement wheel on the balance wheel in contrast to a Swiss anchor escapement
in which the anchor acts directly on the escape wheel.

The AP escapement beats at 36000 vibrations per hour and is fitted with two Elinvar spirals that are
set in opposite directions. It delivers a well improved efficiency. A dart is specifically designed for this
kind of escapement, which prevents any overbanking. The objective is achieved: this high-demanding
design caliber reaches a chronometric variation of only 0 to 30 sec per month.

To ensure the excellent transmission of the power released by the double barrels, all the wheels of the
movement have been optimized by a special profile or the teeth with a pressure angle of 20°. This
feature, inspired by automobile transmissions, produces long, continuous transfer of power along
the entire going trains of the High Performance escapement.

The baseplate and bridges are machined from ARCAP, a material used for the first time in watchmaking
in the Richard Mille caliber RM002. ARCAP is renowned for its physical characteristics, which include
corrosion-resistance and anti-magnetic properties. These qualities explain its frequent use in the
aerospace, automobile and advanced electronics industries.

These superlative technical characteristics are combined with outstanding hand-finishing operations.
Many hours of work are required to produce each of the movement’s components, perfectly exemplified
by the microblasted baseplate and escapement-holder, the polished, microblasted, beveled and
circular-grained wheels, the burnished sections, or the soft-polished escapement bridges.

The new round case (50 mm x 13.90 mm) is made in four parts according to an exceptionally complex
design, and has been chamfered, polished and brushed for a unique finish. Lastly, in a perfect
demonstration of the attention devoted to every detail, the lugs are carefully designed to extend the
lines of the case while following the curve of the strap.

The RM 031 is available in a limited edition of 10 platinum pieces.

Used for the first time on the RM 002, ARCAP is a material that is renowned for its physical characteristics. With its antimagnetic properties and density of just 8.90 g/cm3, ARCAP is almost completely insensitive to large temperature variations and corrosion. These qualities explain why ARCAP is frequently used in the aeronautical, automobile and advanced electronics industries. Another of ARCAP's ideal characteristics for fine watchmaking is its propensity to accept extreme finishing with inimitable results.

BARREL AND BALANCE BRIDGE IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM
These components are made from grade 5 titanium treated with a black PVD coating, which gives the whole structure great rigidity and excellent surface flatness, both essential to the perfect functioning of the gear train.

The caliber RM 031 possesses the most advanced regulating mechanism in existence today. Equipped with a variable-inertia balance wheel and a direct-impulse escapement, the RM 031 High Performance guarantees an extraordinarily regular going rate. The movement has a variation of between 0 and 30 seconds per month, offering an accuracy that is four times superior to that of current movements.

FUNCTION INDICATOR
In a manner similar to a car's gearbox, the function indicator allows one to see the winding, neutral and hand setting positions as the crown is pulled out. Each position is indicated via a hand at 5 o'clock displaying the following functions: W (Winding) – N (Neutral) – H (Hands).

BALANCE WHEEL WITH VARIABLE INERTIA
The free sprung barrel of the caliber RM031 is especially created for Richard Mille and guarantees optimal output in the RM 031 High Performance.

The balance wheel is equipped with 2 Elinvar balance springs set in opposition to each other thus ensuring the perfect centering of the balance wheel's center of gravity, irrespective of the watch's position. This makes it possible to set the balance wheel oscillating at a high frequency of 36,000 vph (5 Hz). This particular arrangement also dispenses with the terminal curve of overcoil springs, a curve that is very difficult to create because of the specific conditions needed for them to function completely concentrically.

The balance wheel is completed by a four-screw regulating system. The regulator index is thus eliminated. A more accurate and repeatable inertia adjustment can now be made directly on the balance wheel.

AP DIRECT-IMPULSE ESCAPEMENT
A subtle combination of a detent escapement and a Swiss anchor escapement, this component enables perfect regulation and timekeeping results. Developed by APR&P for Audemars Piguet, it was chosen by Richard Mille to power the RM 031 High Performance caliber. The AP escapement provides an improved transmission yield thanks to the direct action of the escapement wheel on the balance wheel. A guard pin designed especially for this type of escapement prevents overbanking.

DOUBLE BARREL SYSTEM
The double barrel system helps to improve the stability of torque over a longer period. This is achieved by dispersing the stored energy within two winding barrels, equalizing torque as well as reducing pressure and friction on the bearings and pivots, resulting in improved long-term performance.

FAST-ROTATING BARREL (4 hours per revolution instead of 7.5 hours)
This type of barrel has the following advantages:

OPTIMAL GEAR TEETH PROFILE
All the wheels of the RM 031 caliber are optimized by the use of a special profile for the teeth with a pressure angle of 20°. This pressure angle favors rolling and better withstands interaxial differences. These new gear trains ensure excellent torque transmission and hence optimum output.

EXTREME FINISHING FOR THE MOVEMENT
The RM 031 Haute Performance displays a quality of finish that is rarely found in Haute Horlogerie. The finish adorning every component of the movement and case is created by hand. The baseplate and escapement-holder are made of microblasted ARCAP. The angles and lower part of the baseplate are polished, while the upper surfaces of the escapement-holder are straight-grained. The titanium barrel bridges are microblasted with polished angles. The various bridges that make up the RM 031 are straight-grained above and have hand-polished angles. The wheels are polished, microblasted, beveled and circular-grained. The sections are burnished and the escapement bridges are soft-polished. A PVD treatment is also applied to the parts in grade 5 titanium.

CASE
The design and manufacture of the watch embody a complete conceptual approach to the case, dial and every part of the movement. The timepiece is created as a harmonious whole according to extremely rigorous specifications. The casing ring is eliminated, and the movement is fixed to the chassis with three titanium screws and silent blocks (ISO SW). A first at Richard Mille, the case is composed of four parts, and is assembled using 12 Spline screws in grade 5 titanium and wear-resistant washers in 316L stainless steel.
The system is completed by the incorporation of the lugs as separate elements of the case design. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters.

EXTREME FINISHING FOR THE CASE
The four-part case of the RM 031 Haute Performance is finished to the same high standards as the movement:
The exterior titanium bezel is entirely microblasted with vertical satin-finished edges and hand-polished angles; the interior platinum bezel is satin-finished on the upper surface and microblasted on the sides.
The case middle and back are in platinum. The case middle is microblasted and satin-finished with vertical satin-finished edges, the case back is satin-finished at 6 and 12 o'clock, the sides are polished, the edges smoothed and the Richard Mille engraving microblasted.
The platinum lugs are carefully designed to extend the lines of the case while following the curve of the strap.
