So, we have all seen the official images on the Press releases etc, but there is nothing quite like a “wrist shot” in my opinion!

It is always great to actually get to handle these pieces, look at them closely for inspection and of course get to wear them!

These wear beautifully especially the 123 with its sweeping seconds hand as opposed to the sub seconds dial which is normally at 6. It gives the watch that larger and sportier look.
I like the sand coloured Heritage livery as opposed to the Vintage Sport that was released last year.
Both are very comfortable on the “tropical” rubber straps that they come on, and the texture gives it a different feel also.

THE VINTAGE SPORT HERITAGE LINE

The Vintage line’s spirit recalls the 1960s era of civil aviation and the decade’s sports watches. its HERITAGE style embodies the period in its details:


• Sand-colored hands and numerals reproduce the aged look of period watches.
• The round, classically shaped, polished steel case features a bulging, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, adding modern technology to the crystal’s authentic shape

These are lovely looking watches with the ‘Flecked’ brown dials (a work in progress) which highlights the sand coloured applied indices. The brown leather strap is also a great way of completing the brown colour of this watch. The “Falcon” screen printed logo on the dial at 6 looks great, printed in white and enforces the direct partnership and prestige of the Dassault Aviation company.

THE ANNIVERSARY SERIES: THE VINTAGE FALCON

The FALCON watch pays homage to its namesake’s 50th anniversary, featuring all the hallmarks of the VINTAGE SPORT HERITAGE line and stands out due to:

GOLDEN HERITAGE

I can't help but I have to tell you how I felt while trying it....

Despite I am a huge Seiko fan and therefore I was searching since a long time for a Tuna to try on the flesh, I never had the chance to find one in my city (or elsewhere in Italy). Few days ago walking in Duomo square I stopped as usual at Grimoldi shop window, and hidden among some nice spring drive and Ananta chrono i saw the Tuna. I was in a hurry then, but this afternoon i get back and entered the shop to try it.
As usual I've been welcomed by the Grimoldi brothers, who showed me the piece....
And here we go:

First impression: great surprise.
Actually, the watch is quite massive (even if i'd say less than expected) but incredibly light. Of course, it is titanium, with a ceramic shroud....But I own other titanium divers and are not - apparently - so light.
Wears very good on the wrist, due to the non-existing lugs (strap is fixed inside the case).

I started to look at it quite closely, and the case finishing showed to be flawless. The dark grey appearance of the case in combination with the even darker grey of the shroud gives the watch a very aggressive look. The shroud is incredibly smooth at touch, and warm.
The following part catching my attention was the crown. Call it massive is quite reductive. I unscrewed it, clicked to the date and time setting positions, and no wobbling. Instead, an impressive huge diameter tube emerges below the crown, showing what seems to be a double gasket. Again, impressive. I own several 1000m and below, never seen anything like this.

The case back really delivered me a strong feeling: i've heard and read of single piece cases, without screwed back...But this was the first time i was directly looking at it and the impression is of pure undestructibility.
Surely, this is a feeling and very personal, but i think you can understand what I mean.

Then the dial...Nothing really surprising here, the lume is excellent as expected. The bezel is very hard to move, and an additional difficulty in doing that is the presence of the shroud.

.....And the second hand is happily jumping second after second.
Yes, it is a quartz !
Looking at the rest of the watch - which has nothing to do with what we usually associate with "quartz watch" - I almost forgot this detail....

This and the cheap-appearing rubber strap makes this watch a little less appealing to me,however it is a bold piece, with a lot of personality...Surely not for everyone.

Sorry to have bored you, but I wanted to share immediately the feelings that this incredible watch gave me....

The latest Arnold & Son timepiece is not only a tribute to John Arnold’s originality and skill but also to the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds itself, cradle of Swiss watchmaking and seat of the Company.

The newest additions to the HMS1 collection feature an anthracite, cream or black dial in a classical elegant 18-carat rose gold case, a white or anthracite dial in a stainless steel case, and an 18-carat white gold case featuring a silver colored dial. The case is 40 mm in diameter and houses a manufacture hand-wound movement which is only 2.7 mm thick.

Immediately one notices the two barrels providing 80 hours power reserve. In a direct response to the British Government’s search for an answer to the problem of calculating longitude reliably at sea, John Arnold founded a watchmaking company in London in 1764. Paris Musée d'Orsay

This year is the 180th Anniversary of Jaeger-LeCoultre and 2013 will certainly be an eventful year for the Grande Maison. Months before the turn of year however, the luxury watchmaking house was planning a few concurrent events to give a fitting preview of what's ahead. Amongst them, the opening of the largest mono-brand watch boutique in the prestigious Place Vendôme Square on November 2012 and concurrently a temporary watch exhibition and a dinner with close friends of the brand at the much respected Musée d'Orsay.

The Paris Musée d'Orsay (Orsay Museum) Was the former Orsay Railway station, a building built for the 1900 World's Fair. Up until the start of World War II Orsay was the head station of the French South-Eastern line. By 1939 however, the platform had become too short and was confined to serving only the Parisian suburbs. It would later turned into a modern hotel (in the Seventies). With renewed interest in the 19th century, the place was turned into a museum and it was inaugurated by the then French President François Mitterrand on 1st December 1986.

In many ways, the choice of Orsay Museum as the venue is befitting of a serious watchmaking brand like Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. The establishment boasts a worldwide reputation as the veritable cathedral of impressionism, possesses an almost limitless diversity of its collections and is a temple of modernity celebrated by the greatest artists and thinkers. Interestingly, like Jaeger-LeCoultre, the place was also constructed in the 19th Century to celebrate the creativity and genius of the period, much like Jaeger-LeCoultre founded 180 years ago by the visionary Antoine LeCoultre.



In the 2011 movie "Hugo", in one of the scene when chased by the inspector, Hugo climbs up the clock tower and is forced to climb onto the clock hands to hide from the Inspector. When Jaeger-LeCoultre CEO Jerome Lambert was watching the movie with his family, the moment when Hugo was hanging precariously by the clock hand and the epic looking clock tower made a deep impression on him. It was there and then that the CEO decided that the dinner had to be held in an appropriate place with a similar clock tower.

Amazingly, the Orsay museum fits all the requirements. To organize a temporary Jaeger-LeCoultre exhibition at the museum is difficult enough, to host a dinner within the museum for the friends of the brand within the museum sounded like something only the Jaeger-LeCoultre team could pull off.

By the time the memorable evening event was over, everyone there would agree - Jaeger-LeCoultre did pull it off!

The Orient M-Force 2011 and the Seiko SKZ247K1 “FrankenMonster”.



I reviewed them separately here in the past months (M-Force review - Franken review), but only recently I realized that what is really interesting is the comparison.
Without a term of comparison, the judgement is less objective and sometimes mistaken (this is true not only for watches but for every field, from guitars to beers).
So, since I own them since some time now and they are well tested in the field (used while jogging, and when playing squash (!).
The Franken was also used in the dangerous :S waters of Canada (a swimming pool in Banff)) they are old enough to withstand a face-to-face fight.

What I did was to put them side by side and start to look/check/compare, giving my personal vote from 1 to 5.

Case:
O – Quite classic case style for a diver, with crown at 4. Pleasant matte/shiny surfaces finish. 5
S – Unusual case style, with strong character. Due to the plastic protection it looks like a sort of mini-tuna.
However the plastic shroud gives it a “cheaper” look. 4



Bezel:
O – Massive, with alternate heights to enhance grip. Quite original, with personality. A bit difficult/hard to rotate. 5
S – Not as massive or eye-catcher as one would have expected, however clicks perfectly smooth. Not very easy to grip because the “grip area” is
limited by the presence of the plastic shroud. 4

Crown:
O – Maybe due to the internal anti-shock structure surrounding the calibre, it is really very “movable” when unscrewed and extracted and gives not that much solidity feeling.
Sometimes the manual-winding position is slipping and difficult to engage. 3
S – One of the most distinctive parts of the Franken. Easy to grip/unscrew, clicks good in every position but once extracted feels a little bit “weak” and “movable” compared to what you would expect. 4

Lugs:
O – Drilled lugs, with huge spring bar. Very well done, only downside maybe a little bit close to the case, big size rubber straps can be difficult to position. 4
S – Drilled lugs, with huge spring bar. No problem in fitting a new rubber strap. 5

Strap/Bracelet:
O – The original metal bracelet, despite massive, is very far from the overall quality of the watch itself.
The pin and collar connection system works very badly (you can risk to loose a collar easily) and I was forced to glue them all. 2
S – The original bracelet was really massive and in line with the quality level of the watch itself.
A nice addition of character is the “squared” pattern engraving on it which recalls the dial and the bezel sides. 5

(as you will notice, I replaced both bracelets with more comfortable, practical and lighter rubber straps).

Wearability:
O – Despite the size, the watch sits very well on my wrist. Very comfortable, not too heavy. Due to the relatively low height, It can be worn under a (not too tight) sleeve. 5
S – It is indeed a massive watch but on the wrist it looks not excessively big. Good comfort even if sometimes the crown can dig your hand when strap is loose.
The crown and the height however prevents it to be placed under most sleeves. 4

Dial:
O – Flat, black dial. Indexes are surrounded by a metallic shiny profile, as well as the hands. Both are covered with luminova, which shines moderately in the dark.
Power reserve indicator is not “luminated” and it is not visible in the dark (however the red second hand tip is, and tells you whether the watch is working or not).
The power reserve indicator jointly with the presence of the Orient logo and the M-Force sign makes the dial a bit busy.
Date indication (white disc, black digits) at 9, small and not easy to read. Shappire crystal. 4
S – Multi level black dial, with the central part engraved with a “squared” pattern and the outer part (where indexes are) raised and flat.
Indexes are simple trapezoids covered with Lumibrite, as are the hands.
Nothing metal-shining here, but I’ve never seen anything burning like this in the dark, you can actually read a book using the Franken as a torch.
Day-date indication, black disc and white digits. Acrylic crystal. 5



Movement:
O – Orient 40N5A, 21600, 22j. hacking and manual winding feature. 5
S – Seiko 7S36, 21600, 23j. Non hacking, non manual-winding. 4



Bottom line:
Giving the score above, to me the Seiko wins by very little.
However both are exceptional tool watches especially when considering the price/value/performances ratio.
(It is important to notice that they belong more or less to the same price range).

The Orient is a bit more “elegant” if we may say so, and at first sight the overall look, quality and finishing appears higher than in the Seiko.
It could well be an everyday watch.
However at a second sight the “composition” is not so harmonic especially due to the busy dial (but this is a pure matter of taste).
Nice additions as the manual winding capability (to be tuned) and the shappire crystal are perhaps not so necessary in watches like these (if not present might keep the price point below Seiko’s).
My suggestions to Orient: re-organize the dial layout to improve readability, improve the crown functionality, greatly improve the bracelet quality.

The Seiko is a pure tough heavy duty watch, very much like a T-800 Terminator.
Not much to add, except that you will hardly wear it outside a sporty environment, preferably wet.
You can consider it a wannabe tuna, or a first step in the tuna world: depending on your personal perspective (and wallet) this can be a bad or good point.
My suggestions to Seiko: remove the daydate window to improve the tough technical appearance, replace the cheap-looking shroud with a higher quality material (metal or ceramic).

Of course, this comparison relies on my taste and experience only….
It would be great to hear from any of you owning the same pieces what is your feeling, impression, experience.

Despite the economic crisis, swiss brands did quite well as the opening of many new single-brand boutiques demonstrates.

Also, new interesting innovations and models have been released.
Among the most interesting innovations I'd mention the research for very high frequency escapments, such as the ones released by Tag-Heuer.
Concerning the model that caught my attention more, I would like to mention the UR-110 by Urwerk.
The reason why I choose this watch is its capability to be futuristic in its look and way to show time, while being at the same time faithful to the brand’s heritage (despite relatively short).

It would be interesting to hear from you which was the most interesting innovation and your 2012 favourite watch.

Just to let you know that Olivier Watches is not an honest watch company. They took my order May 2012 and I paid a US$200 deposit. They have not delivered my watch and attempts to contact them went unanswered. I wrote several times to Roland Tenenbaum but was promised he will deliver. First he blames my emails going to his "Junk" mail folder but when I sent him another email asking for an update, I got no response.

So be careful. I have been cheated and hope that fellow watch lovers do not get cheated by Helson Watches. Sorry if this is not the right forum but I sure don't want fellow watch enthusiasts to be cheated. Moderators, feel free to relocate this post or delete it if you deem it inappropriate.

Jaeger-LeCoultre CEO Jerome Lambert was in top form as he explained the significant of the Place Vendome Boutique just a few months before the 180 anniversary of the brand.

Following our previous posting on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Place Vendome Boutique Opening, here are more images of the exceptional evening.





Place Vendome is the ultimate home of luxury and is considered by many as the most prestigious address for the luxury industry in the world and 500 square metre of retail space in Place Vendome is an impressive fact worth repeat postings here. On the opening event, more than 800 guests and celebrities were there to witness as Jaeger-LeCoultre CEO Jerome Lambert inaugurated the boutique and cheers were heard in the square as Mr. Lambert alongside Diane Kruger and Guillain Maspetiol cut the ceremonial opening ribbon. Diane Kruger is a famous actress and a friend of Jaeger-LeCoultre and Guillain Maspetiol is the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand manager in France.



Celebrities present included Catherine Deneuve Carmen Chaplin, Isabelle Hupert, Ines de la Fressange, Vincent Perez, Jose Luis Rebordinos, Olaga Sorokina and Marina Hands and scores of others.



After the official ribbon cutting, the guests were limousined to the historical Grand Hotel for an after party celebration, where the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre UTT was unveiled and guests entertained with exceptional performances by an equestrian show and a circus female artist.



It was a memorable evening!

Piaget Limelight Gala is a straight forward lady Quartz, While the Calibre 690P movement probably won't get us at Revolution excited, it showcases Piaget's usual (or unusual) flair in design. Lovely aesthetic, nice curves complemented by Piaget gem setting. Piaget said the watch design was inspired by the "resolutely fanciful 1960s spirit", what I see from the watch is the even more sensual "69".



Technically more impressive is the Piaget Emperador Coussin Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater. The case is only 9.4mm thick with the new Calibre 1290P measuring only 4.8mm. Known more for their jewellery watches for ladies, Piaget has tried hard in recent years to also impress the technically inclined watch buyers. From the original Emperador Tourbillon created by Cartier's Carole Forestier, Piaget has created no less than 35 in-house calibres within a relative short 14 years (short in watchmaking development timeline).





With their huge commercial success in China, Piaget has chosen to focus mainly on the Chinese market and hence the popular elegant ultra thin watch segment. This new Minute Repeater follows their recent trail of Ultra-Thin movements and watches, including the automatic Cal 1200P, hand-wound shaped tourbillon Cal 600P, the automatic Chronograph Cal 880P, the Automatic perpetual calendar Cal 855P and the automatic tourbillon calibre 1270P.





This new Piaget Minute Repeater is the first chiming watch from the brand and it has made the Piaget complication range more complete. Certainly Minute Repeater is the most complicated watch from the brand so far and the "three years of work by six engineers" as claimed by Piaget demonstrated their commitment in the technical complication segment. Although the use of "engineers" rather than experienced watchmakers (not mutually exclusive) by Piaget is a disturbing indication of where the haute horlogerie market is going. To be fair, Piaget is far from the only brand guilty of putting modern engineering technology in front of traditional watchmaking, although is some ways, it is difficult to separate the two.





In any case, the Piaget Emperador Coussin Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater claimed a respectable volume of 64db and a damping factor of 2600, a remarkable achievement especially for the first one from Piaget. The Piaget open dial concept of the watch is also extremely eye pleasing in concept.

Hublot teams up with Ferrari in Valencia, Spain, to celebrate the Finali Mondiali of the Ferrari Challenge and conclude an amazing year together!

A fantastic year across the board for Ferrari and Hublot and a highly successful first 12 months for the partnership in terms of both sales and image and, as the year draws to an end, Hublot together with Ferrari chose the Finali Mondiali in Valencia, Spain, to celebrate this amazing 2012 together and unveil the plans and ambitions for the following 2013 season.


This first year of partnership was marked by a fruitful collaboration between Ferrari and Hublot, with over 130 events organised worldwide where both Ferrari's sports cars and Hublot's exclusive timepieces were effectively showcased. The companies' teams collaborated closely to enhance their respective marque's synergies in events staged in important new emerging markets, such as Taiwan, as well as in support of exceptional international activities, such as the successful attempt at setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest ever parade of Ferrari cars at Silverstone. A further illustration of the importance of the partnership between Ferrari and Hublot is the signage now in Place Vendôme, Paris which was inaugurated on the 1st of December 2012.













This illustration in Paris recalls the launch of the first Big Bang Ferrari in Titanium and the Magic Gold watch at Baselworld in April. Magic Gold is the first ever scratch-resistant 18-carat gold, a technological material invented by Hublot. The presentation was presided over by Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, and Ricardo Guadalupe, the company's CEO, and attended by Andrea Perrone, Senior Vice President of Ferrari Brand with other distinguished guests and friends. During the launch other significant creations dedicated to special Ferrari events or markets were showcased, such as the 20 magnificent carbon Tourbillons produced exclusively for collectors in China, or the watch produced exclusively for owners of the Ferrari 250 GTO at the gathering to mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary car.

Paula Zahn Conducts A Heartfelt Interview with Carlos Fuente Jr.

Hublot hosted an intimate luncheon in honor of Carlos Fuente Jr., owner of Arturo Fuente Cigars, to celebrate the New York debut of the King Power “Arturo Fuente” timepiece at the exclusive Grand Havana Room. The watch is a result of the unique collaboration between the fine Swiss luxury watchmaker and one of the world’s premiere cigar brands.

Hublot’s top customers, as well as watch and lifestyle press, sipped champagne and admired the King Power “Arturo Fuente” timepiece prior to sitting down to a three-course lunch. Former New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, who is a close friend of the Fuente family, stopped by to congratulate Mr. Fuente on the partnership.





As the luncheon came to a close, eight-time Emmy award-winning journalist and friend of the Hublot brand Paula Zahn, conducted a touching interview with Mr. Fuente. He spoke passionately about the Hublot partnership and the synergy that exists between the two brands, specifically the creation of handcrafted products, the importance of precision and the shared philosophy of giving back to the community.
Mr. Fuente also gave an emotional testimony about honoring his grandfather’s legacy and his wish to pass on the company to the next generation. He also spoke ardently about the company’s nonprofit organization, the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, a 23-acre complex in the Dominican Republic that features a school, sports and recreation facilities and a medical clinic.
Mr. Fuente remarked, “For my family and everyone who is here today, this is a very special moment and the best culmination of 100 years of my family’s achievements. Today we celebrate with a BIG BANG and leave 2012 with great cigars and a great watch, the Hublot King Power “Arturo Fuente.”





This past October, Hublot celebrated the launch of the partnership in Santo Domingo at the Arturo Fuente factory with CEO of Hublot, Ricardo Guadalupe and Mr. Fuente. The King Power “Arturo Fuente” timepiece was created in celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the Arturo Fuente brand and pays tribute to the Opus X, the rarest type of cigar in the world. Only 100 pieces of the King Gold version will be produced while the ceramic version is limited to 200 pieces. The limited edition timepieces come in a genuine cigar case made out of Macassar ebony and carbon fiber and of course, come with Opus X cigars.

(19 replies) http://revo-online.com/forums/main/read.php?33,1009196,1009196#msg-1009196 With its interesting history, and especially after the amazing versions in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, the Pasha de Cartier has grown to a steady pillar within the Cartier collection. That was proofed once more when Cartier introduced the Pasha 42 in 2005. With this watch the Pasha returned to it’s roots in a very contemporary way. With a plain bezel, blued hands and lack of date, but with the square railroad track and 4 Arabic numerals its design is very similar as that of the original watch made for the Pasha of Marrakech. The distinct difference however, is the 42mm case. This made it the largest Pasha that Cartier ever made.

This larger case, combined with the clean looks, gave the watch tremendous personality and a real statement piece for around the wrist. Personality is also something that this watch has on the inside. Here ticks caliber MC 8000, a movement developed by Jaeger-LeCoultre especially for the Pasha 42. With 28,800 vibrations per hour, double barrel and winding mechanism in both directions it is a very contemporary movement, and the perfect companion for this new Pasha.

The Pasha as way of life; Shaving accessories in style of the legendary watch

But Cartier didn’t stop there. With the introduction of the Pasha 42 Chronograph they took the design a step further. Because of the larger case there is plenty of room for the three subdials without creating a watch that is too busy to look at. The subdials are oval shaped and placed a little deeper then the rest of the dial. Also the inside of the subdials is placed lower then the subdials itself. This gives the dial a three dimensional effect, that is even strengthened by the fact that Cartier only applied guilloche within the railroad track, and not outside it. This makes the Pasha 42 Chronograph very attractive to look at. The movement that Cartier used for the Pasha 42 Chronograph is caliber MC 8100. This is a modified version of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s caliber 750. This automatic movement has the desired column wheel operation of the chronograph function as well as the tricompax layout of the subdials. Because the sub seconds are placed at 6 o’clock the watch has even in regard to it’s functions, a very balanced look. Perhaps the date function between 4 and 5 o’clock takes some of this balance away, but replaces this with practicality. It also suits the much sportier looks of this watch, compared to the time only Pasha 42.

The chronograph adds some complication to the Pasha's design

The Pasha de Cartier has always been a watch on the threshold of dress and sports watch. The Pasha of Marrakech clearly had a desire for a watch that embodied luxury while at the same time was suited to the harsh environment that the inlands of Morocco. A different take was introduced by Cartier when the Pasha Seatimer joined the collection. With a diving bezel, a slightly smaller case, and hands filled with luminova it embodies more the sporty side of the Pasha design, as Gerald Genta introduced in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

A chronograph followed soon after and although it shared quite some design traits with the Pasha 42 Chronograph it was a watch of it’s own. The shape of the canteen crown was altered and featured now, just as the side of the bezel, a row of Clous de Paris decoration. This combination of old style craftsmanship, with a modern take on the original design, made the Seatimer Chronograph a very fresh watch, yet very Cartier at the same time. It also shows the versatility of the Pasha design, going from dress watch to sports watch simply by what it’s owner wears.

Functional complications combined with the timeless Pasha; Cartier at it's best

That the Pasha 42 was destined to even greater things became clear in 2011, when a limited production model was introduced that featured a big date, second time zone and day and night indicator. The movement for this watch was based on caliber 8000 MC and this was also the first Pasha where Cartier gave customers the option to get it with that stunning dial in a deep, dark chocolate color. Cartier did an excellent job integrating the different complications within the Pasha-design and maintained that clean look that is clearly one of the strengths of the Pasha 42.

Tourbillon, chronograph and 8 day power reserve; true complication housed in a Pasha case

Also the days that the Pasha housed some of the most complicated movements Cartier ever put in one of their wrist watches relived. In 2011 Cartier introduced two stunning tourbillon movements in the Pasha. One features Cartier’s caliber 9457 MC, a skeletonized movement that is stripped to it’s bare bones so that the flying tourbillon seems to almost quite literally fly into the air. With caliber 9438 MC did Cartier also introduce a tourbillon chronograph with impressive 8 day power reserve in the Pasha case. Both watches where a testimony to the fact that Cartier is not only a power house when it comes to legendary watch designs, but that it is now also a serious force when it comes to the creation of innovating Manufacture movements.

What will the future hold for the Pasha? That is a question only the people at Cartier will be able to answer. As previously reported the big news was a new in-house 7 day hand-wound movement from Franck Muller . . .





Speaking of big news, this was also the occasion of the launch of the Giga-Tourbillon, which is claimed to be the largest tourbillon in the world --possible qualifiers: largest wristwatch tourb (would have to check but Breguet himself made some pretty hefty tourbillons) and possibly the largest conventional wristwatch tourbillon (the Astrotourbillon, from Cartier, which is a central carrousel tourbillon, may be larger in diameter . . . hmmm, have to check.) Any way you slice it though, it's a mighty big tourbillon.



Also there were some watches from Backes and Strauss which, if they could talk, would say, "drop dead," ;-) (disclosure: borrowed phrase from NY Times review of a show of Ruhlmann deco furniture. I steal from the best. Besides, it's apropos.)



First night festivities: a party on the beach, after which some of us went for a refreshing swim in the Med.





Second night gala was at the Hotel de Paris, where we were greeted out front by some otherworldly creatures . . .







Some of the head-turning entertainment from the evening --a piano performance in 360 degrees (tourbillon theme again?)



Models circulated showing FM timepieces . . .



Up early the next morning for a flight back to New York . . . but I wasn't going to be home for long. 2 days back and then, Le Brassus . . . and Berlin.

I got a request on Twitter a while back for some pictures of the Richard Lange and since we do requests, here they are :-) these were shot at the Lange boutique in Dubai at the Dubai Mall. A fantastic place to visit with terrific staff; the young lady who showed me this watch obviously knew both it and the company backwards and forwards. My sincerest thanks to the boutique staff for their hospitality.

Totally out of the blue and completely unexpected, at least for me, we received the news
that Cartier will release again, a new version of the legendary Crash watch in 2013.



Since a couple of years, the 'community' has asked frequently, why there is no Crash
and why not a larger Crash, since the model is very popular among men.
Cartier responded and will present in January, 4 different models for ladies in white- and in pink gold.
All models are set with diamonds and have
and that's, I think, for the first time for the Crash, a bracelet with drop shaped links!
Personally I am very exited to see a bracelet with this kind of links, back in the catalogue.
This is só much Cartier.
There is also a more precious version, where the bracelet is entirely gem set.
These 'drop' shaped links, are a variation on the 'tear drop' links, often used in the eighties
and they give the bracelet a vintage and very feminine look.



The Crash watch is one of those iconic objects from the seventies, like the 'LOVE' and the
'Juste un Clou bracelet.
To me and I am sure to many, this is absolute great news, that Cartier decided to re-release the Crash again
and I now start wondering, will a larger mens model also be in the pipe line........?
I am sure not for 2012, but who knows what 2014 will bring. There are no rumours yet.



Some different versions about the history of the model are being told, but now I read for the first time
Cartier's official story, of how the Crash watch, was created and I'll share here the un-edited line
Cartier used in their announcement;

- "According to the story, a client returned a Cartier watch that had been involved in an accident,
in order to have it repaired and Jean-Jacques Cartier, then the head of Cartier London,
was so taken with the shape of the case, that he wanted to reproduce it"-



This legendary and very feminine version of the watch, is produced in just 267 numbered pieces
for the models with gold bracelets and 67 numbered pieces, for the models with gem-set bracelets.
Like the Crash watches from the past, also these new limited editions, are objects of desire.
The last time 'La Maison' released a small edition of just 13 Crash watches,
was in 2005, for the re-opening of the Rue de la Paix store in Paris and before that another batch of
300 pieces in 1991.

These new watches have, like the vintage versions, a mechanical hand wound movement,
but lack the word Paris or London on the dial, that has been changed to 'Swiss Made'.



The new Crash watches will officially be presented at the SIHH in Geneva, January 2013.
Due to the very limited numbers produced, the watches will only be available at certain Cartier Boutiques.
Calling your sales representative in advance, is absolute advisable, since these beauties have no time
to wait on the shelves.
