While there are many benefits and attractions to crafting extremely exclusive high-quality very-complicated and sublimely finished timepieces, there are two potential drawbacks:
1. Extremely exclusive could mean that practically nobody ever gets to see or handle a Greubel Forsey timepiece. 2. The sheer amount of handcraft and sophisticated complication involved may be difficult to appreciate as there is a limit to the information able to be conveyed by print or web. Not surprisingly, Greubel Forsey are very aware of the potential problems and actively ensure that ‘exclusive’ is not synonymous with ‘invisible’. They do then by having attending exhibitions and private collectors functions all over the world. There the Greubel Forsey timepieces can been seen, sometimes handled, and often explained by Stephen Forsey himself. Recently Greubel Forsey have made two trips out to Asia, the first to a Yafiro arrange exhibition in Singapore and the second a private collectors function in Bangkok, Thailand. If you missed the events then the photos below should provide an idea of what they were like, and if you were there they will hopefully bring back few happy memories. ![]() The Yafiro Time & Luxury Exhibition in Singapore ![]() Note the colourful dancers on the stage. Hi Ian,
I'm curious to know how customers approach their purchase of a GF timepiece. Is the watch something that goes into a safe only to be admired as an observable work of art on special occasions? Or, do the lucky owners buy the watch to wear and enjoy on a more regular basis? I only wish I had such a conundrum m |
